Yeah this does seem to be the deciding factor whether they create new PAL transfers, great for the UK.

Did SFLV see a general UK theatrical release by Tartan? I know that they did in yanky doodle land.

At least in the case of ATOTS it's not a big deal when the UK is so nice.

I reckon so but as my local cinemas never bother to show these releases I can't say for sure.

Once I sell Bichunmoo/get everything sorted out I'll order it. It may have to wait till next month though.

Is the R4 SFMV cover reversible? Ezy are OOS so may as well order it now.

The Eastern Eye version will have BOTH the Chinese original and USA re-cut versions.
Some of the original 35mm film elements were very badly damaged and it is a miracle that the movie has survived at all! The versions on this disc are not perfect due to the damage done to the print over the years, but they are the best available in the world at the present time.

So you can enjoy all the uncut goodness of the first real 'tournament' film and the funky moves of the vastly under-rated Wang Yu !

No one knows which cut the Tartan has, Brad speculated that it's the DC. The runtimes for both the TC & DC are VERY similar, AFAIK no one has noted the differences between the two cuts.

The Tartan disc has the DC of Bittersweet Life.
The differences between the TC and the DC are very subtle.

The added stuff is hard to spot because the cuts are seamless:
-Sun-Woo forgets his keys at Hee-Soo's place when he meets her for the first time (10s of new stuff).
-The cello-playing scene is longer (about 30s of new stuff at the beginning of the scene).
-I think the death-scene is much longer (maybe 20s or so).

I'm sure I've missed a few things, but that's all I noticed.

Huh ?!

OK, let's try to make sense of this:
-The first version I watched was an old DVD-Rip (presumably) from the first korean edition.
-The second version I watched was the Tartan disc.

And I'm positive there are things that the Tartan has and the korean doesn't.

+ According to DVD-C the korean disc is 114 minutes PAL (which is about 1 1/2 minute shorter than the Tartan).

That's all I know.

Interesting given that the Korean edition actually says "Directors Cut" on the packaging. Perhaps the DC is the shorter of the two. I'll try and check the lengths myself.

True but I suspect Yi mostly cares about the DC over a Longer Cut per say.

A Bittersweet Life: I first saw the DC version when I bought the Korean dvd. Later I saw a festival print with Tartan logo on it. The festival print had different (and far inferior) music playing during the corridor scene near the end. The whole scene was ruined.
