R1 Oldboy 3-disc LE tin - Nov 10th

Post by EvaUnit02 »

So, basically what R2UK got the first time around + a subtitled version of the 3rd Diary disc from one of the 10,000 R3K releases + a film cell and a manga. I'll pass.

I might pick up the R2UK Vengeance trilogy boxset, granted if Tartan hasn't stuffed up and slapped on NTSC-PAL garbage for SFMV and SFLV.

"Special Features:

- Three-Disc Set In A Limited-Edition Metal Collector's Box
- English Dubbed or Original Korean Audio
- Over 350 Minutes Of Bonus Material
- Film Cell From The 35mm Reel In A Collector's Card
- The Original Japanese Old Boy Volume 1 Manga Graphic Novel Upon Which The Movie Was Based, Translated Into English

DISC 1:

- Anamorphic Widescreen
- DTS 5.1 & Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Tracks
- Director's Commentary
- Director & Cinematographer's Commentary
- Director & Cast Commentary

DISC 2: Behind The Scenes Documentaries

- Making The Film
- Production Design
- The Music Score
- CGI Documentary
- Flashback
- Cast & Crew Interviews
- 10 Deleted Scenes w/Optional Commentary
- "Le Grand Prix At Cannes" Featurette

DISC 3:

- The Autobiography Of Oldboy: A Video Diary From Each Of The Shooting Days"

I don't like the colour of the box.
OldBoy ain't brown/orange.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Eh? I didn't say the transfer the crap :? I have one of the Korean 2 discers and the transfer is great, but the extras aren't English friendly is what I'm saying.

Didnt say you said anything, I am on about this new box. These idiots never release quality dvds. I have had 3 versions of the film including the maeive copper Korean tin, whic I never even bothered watching in the end as the film was so disapointing really.

I guess it depends on price alone for me :) I just want a good version cheap, this verion has the most extras so if its an ok price I will get it.

So it hasnt got a Harry Knowles commmentary then? like my Copper tin?

This looks awesome and I'd definitely pick it up if I didn't already own Old Boy but as I do I'll be passing too. The current 2 disc extras are enough; I've barely watched those.

It does bring a dilemma for those who also want the box set though. Weird Tartan are bringing different releases to each country. The current R1 version is severely lacking in extras. Oh yeah thanks Eva.

I seriously doubt the AV will be remastered, just some new extras. I'd still pick up SFMV but not while it's in that box set. I'm more than happy with my SFLV Korean set.

That is a weird UK addition indeed.

Not true. Both Old and A Tale of Two Sisters have gorgeous transfers. There are others too.

It looks like we're getting this here too:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=62363

Well the DVDs not the Tin, Film Cell or Manga Graphic Novel but different LE Stuff, check out the picture.

And: "whilst Oldboy has the autobiography of Oldboy and an English dubbed version"

Maybe I was wrong it also says: "Sympathy For Mr Vengeance; Oldboy; and Lady Vengeance all get special double disc treatments and are fully remastered in HD"

So fingers crossed for new transfers, assumming this is the case I'd opt for this over the R1 Tin.

Alsso
The details for this set have been adjusted slightly - the Harry Knowles commentary on OldBoy has been dropped (I doubt this will bother anyone!) and we know what pack-ins will be featured on the Deluxe Set. Artwork has also been added.
I doubt I'll bother now as I only need to still get SFMV. I'll probably opt for the R1 as the R4 will be more expensive for me.

I heard that the Tartan R1 was a PAL to NTSC transfer... I could be wrong though...

Not intrested in a 3 film set at all, I just want the film. The knoweles commentary I will just copy from my Oldboy Copper Tin set before I sell it I guess.

Aren't you a fan of the other two? You've got to be the only person who actually wants that commentary.

The dude's an idiot. Are you saying it's on the Korean Tin? :D
BiscLimpkit wrote:I heard that the Tartan R1 was a PAL to NTSC transfer... I could be wrong though...
Yeah you said that before but I've not seen any links? Well we could be here forever:

1. UK - NTSC to PAL
2. Australia - Over £10
3. UK Box set - Box set
4. America - Under £10 and hopefully okay, director's commentary

We know the single disc UK DVD is a mess and the R4 is too expensive.

It should be the version with the improved colours. Tartan's R2UK of Oldboy used the transfer with the improved colours as well, not that the mess which the director and cinematographer wanted.

So whose planning to pick up the new box set or is everyone waiting to hear if SFMV and SFLV are Remastered?

If they're remastered I'll be selling my Old boy and SFLV Korean DVDs if not I doubt I'll bother. I want the new extras but it needs to be extras + new transfer to make it worth my while upgrading.

Why would I buy a set with a worse SFLV transfer? If they're not remastered I'll just get the SFMV R1 DVD and be done with it (the R4 version is Native-PAL + a few more extras but more expensive).

Looks like we'll be hanging onto our R3K SFLV 2-discers regardless of if we get the Vengeance Trilogy boxset or not. It doesn't have the full colour version of SFLV.
Gould wrote:Well I got the Vengeance boxed set this morning and, as Duckman would say, Hommina hommina how wah! It includes pretty much everything I could have ever wanted, with one notable exception - the original theatrical version of Lady V. I guess Tartan are banking on people buying that separately. Other than that, it's an amazing set. The extras look fantastic, and the second disc of Oldboy alone has a three hour documentary! Transfers are all progressive as well.
Still no confirmation of native-PAL transfers yet.

Cheers Eva.

LOL the whole point Tartan was COLOUR and F2B not one or the other. So still NO Native-PAL COLOUR version from Tartan.

Meh I'm keeping my Korean set.

I WANT both versions and the only way to do this is the box set (assuming they're Native-PAL) and the SFLV R1 or R4, and I'm not doing that. I'm already done with this box set it's the R1 or R4 SFMV for me.

Yes I'd like the SFMV and SFLV Extras but I want both cuts much more, Oldboy UK R2 is already perfect "for me".

Ow I didn't realise they'd kept the original title on R4 top marks to Madman.

Where's the cheapest the R4 SFMV can be picked up Mr. Eva? Cheers

The cheapest I can find is:

* R1: DVD Pacific (cheaper than DDD) $20.41/£10.83
* UK R2: CD WOW £7.99 before vouchers (one of those ones which doesn't appear in searches): http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2. ... ffid=13858
* R4: DeVotedDVD.com.au $27.39/£11.03

It's good to see there's not much in it between the R1 and R4 but the UK R2 is so much cheaper at £5.99 (I didn't realise it was that cheap).

I'll get the R4 as at £11.03 delivered it's a fair enough price, no point getting the UK R2 if I might be disappointed with the transfer.

No clue. The NZ RRP will be identical to the AUS RRP, so I'll just buy it locally if I choose to. Look up the sites of the Aussie web stores.

I did and the cheapest was 27 bucks, would it be cheaper locally for you then online then?

That rarely happens here.

I presume you'd get the box set if they're Native-PAL then get the R4 SFLV too?

Fuck yes.

Fuck no, I'm not retarded. If the Tartan boxset is native-PAL then I'd get only that, if it's an NTSC-PAL mess then I'd buy the R4 SFMV only.

You don't want both cuts? or would you just keep your Korean LE too? Weird retail shops are virtually never cheaper here, mostly way more.

Anyway I've changed my mind I'll be getting SFMV R4 too. £11 is decent enough, for £5 less why risk being disappointed with the UK R2.

Of course I want both cuts, I already own both of them on the R3K 2-discer.

Well duh, I already said that I would be.

Who said anything about physical retail shops? I was talking e-stores, things are often sold below the RRP, as it is in the UK and everywhere else. But also Borders hand out 15-20% coupons like they're going out of style.
Anyway I've changed my mind I'll be getting SFMV R4 too.
I said that I'd only buy SFMV IF the transfers in the boxset are NTSC-PAL.
