Hmm. Shame its not there, its like the WOTD PE, the picture was still rubbish and they included Cantonese on there for the main feature (despite the trailer on the DVD being in Mandarin). Ironically, FIST's HK trailer isn't in Mandarin on either the CE or PE DVDs, despite the film being so on the PE.
Oh well

HKL are truly fucked.
I'm sick and tired of their don't give a fuck attitude.
That's why I get the few titles I want from them for about a fiver.
They don't deserve our support.
If I buy the Fox boxset -- who's gonna take the other three titles from me?
I don't wanna get stuck with DVDs I don't need and have to flog them at a huge loss.
Fucking Fox arseholes. :x

The Big Boss
Fist of Fury
-------------
The Way of the Dragon
Game of Death (English)
Game of Death II (English)
--------------
I only want the first two.
But the set is over £20. That would make each film a tenner minimum unless I could sell the others for a few quid each. That's not even including postage from America.

HKL have well and truly lost it. No Mandarin mono? No Mandarin period? The Cantonese track on the old disc was mono but both that and the English tracks were missing the opening second of the film - the Media Asia theme tune plays, the film starts then a second later the music starts. This same problem was on both the Cantonese and English tracks of Way Of The Dragon on the HKL DVD
Regarding Way, I like it a lot despite the fact it's not very good. It's interesting that despite their vast experience in filmmaking prior to directing, Bruce, Jackie Chan and Lau Kar-leung's debut pictures are lightweight films full of comedy and lectures but little bite. By contrast, Sammo's debut Iron Fisted Monk is much more assured. The main problem with Way is the fact that besides Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, none of the characters are good fighters - note the Chinese waiters are mostly played by character actors and friends rather than top-notch stuntmen and the westerners seem to have been - pardoned the phrase - Shanghaied from a hostel. And whilst Bob Wall and Whang In-sik are both good martial artists, they are given the roles of bad martial artists - Wall is given much more opportunity in Enter The Dragon and I'd love to see Bruce take on Whang.
Regarding the Fox set, I'd save your pennies and wait. Joy Sales have all the Bruce Lee films on their remastered list - although GOD2 is referred to as Tower Of Death, which implies they'll release the HK version, which is good but that means to get the English version in mono I have to get the set - unless someone's feeling like a trade?

Mandarin and Cantonese Mono.grim_tales wrote:Does WAY have Mandarin or Cantonese, Mark? Wouldn't be interested in GAME I and II as I already have the HKL's which are fine IMO
Well, the image is better on all titles. But HKL has the extras for GOD, which let's face it is the ONLY reason for owning that crap, and the Chinese version of GOD 2. Fox use the longer international cut.

Tony Liu and Unicorn Chan were actually martial arts stars - but Bruce rarely made anyone else look good. With Sammo everyone looks good.Ivan Drago wrote:The main problem with Way is the fact that besides Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, none of the characters are good fighters - note the Chinese waiters are mostly played by character actors and friends rather than top-notch stuntmen
Yeah, but from what I gather Joy Sales are simply repackaging the IVL sets, and thus there should be no Mandarin Mono, only Cantonese. I've no reason to believe that's not the case as the info came from Muldoon/Joy Sales. Seems Joy Sales have little say over the Remastered titles in terms of what they're given.Regarding the Fox set, I'd save your pennies and wait. So now we know what The Big Boss: PE is getting who is going to pick it up? I suspect I will when it's cheap but am in no rush:
1. The film is only fairly good
2. The dropping of the Bey commentary is a concern
3. It seems uber stupid to include two soundtracks, one new and both wrong!
Not that I mind but it's odd to drop the English dub. The FOF: PE just looked like a much more rounded release.

Finding someone to sell three unwanted films to.bradavon wrote:Why not just buy the R1 box set? What's the beef against it?
But I've ordered the set already anyways...
It's OOS so I won't get it for probably a week or two.
If anyone in the UK wants to buy GOD or GOD2 send me a message...
I may trade if you've got something I'm after.

I received my TBB: PE the other day and to get it out of the yes it only has Cantonese Mono, Cantonese Stereo and English Mono.
Now that's out of the way to the matter at hand. OH MY GOD the picture quality is nothing short of stunning. Considering how bad the old TBB DVD looks this has to be THE best HKL restoration to date (FOF already looked pretty good).
I was blown away by how good it looks now. Considering the Fox is interlaced I'd have trouble believing it looks better there. I didn't notice any pink issues either. I did btw on the FOF (not that it bothers me).
As for the audio the Cantonese Stereo and Mono are virtually identical, neither have anything from the rears and the Stereo if I was being picky has the edge when the music kicks in but it really is minute.
I just wanted to post how good of a job HKL did on the Picture Quality.
As for the commentary. It took me a few minutes to get used to the two Northerner accents (:D) but they're not bad actually. Considering the non-Bey dross HKL have come up with in the past they're not bad.
They're not a patch on Bey. I'm not just saying this but I sampled a few minutes of Project A the other night and that man throws so much information at you non-stop it's amazing. There are to many gaps in TBB: PE commentary for my liking.
In short I'll be keeping my TBB: Single Disc DVD for the Bey commentary.
