Four weddings and a funeral: MGM vs Sony SE

Post by captainjoe »

Four Weddings and a Funeral

The newly remastered transfer on the Special Edition is a much better presentation.
With more accurate colours, (less red) and a better compression rate (cap 3 around the faces) this is by far a better release.
It is also worth noting that the original non-anamorphic release also features an unmatted/pan and scan transfer (see below). The new release is anamorphic.

Agreed the SE is much nicer but why are all your caps two different resolutions? It can make it hard to properly judge.

It's because the one is non-anamorphic. Do you have any ideas on how I can make them the same size?

OR resize them afterwards but Eva's idea is better.

Somewhere there is the standard resolutions we've all been using? If someone can find it I'll make it a locked sticky as it's an often asked question.

Here ya go Brad. Use that whole quoted chunk.

Optimal PowerDVD settings.

Use color profile -> Original.
Video -> Advanced -> Deactivate deinterlacing.
Video -> Advanced -> Color -> All settings to zero.
Player -> Advanced -> Snapshot -> Capture to clipboard / custom size = 720x404 (16/9) 720x540 (4/3).

Thanks Eva.

So in short for WS films it needs to be: 720x404, which also includes non-anamorphic material.

There. I think you were right. Both need to have the same resolution to really compare. I'll fix my other comparisons as well. Thanks for the help. :wink:

Good man. Do you still have the P&S screen shot? That was a useful third comparison.
