Defining piracy
Is piracy just the copying of copyrighted content without the permission of the owner, or to you think it is OK to share content that isn't commercially available?

Everyone - Have there been any cases where sites have been shut down due to sharing of non-commercially available content?
Tom - Sites like UK Nova have been sharing non-commercially available content for quite a while and no-one has qualms. Shit, even the BBC ran a trial where you could download TV programmes from the last 7 days!

Yes. I could name at least 12 sites (from memory) that have been shut down for distributing non-commercially available videos.Have there been any cases where sites have been shut down due to sharing of non-commercially available content?
Happens all the time AFAIK.
But as long as nobody tries to shut them down, they're fine.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Well, that depends on which country you are in
Most anything is not protected by Malaysian copyright laws for instance. And I think I am still allowed to make personal/private copies of stuff and hand to my friends under Norwegian copyright law... which is one reason we're not all too happy with DRM and stuff because it denies us that right
