If it was a casual viewer who would not care about title changes and such, then absolutely i would advise the R1. (if it is infact uncut)
romerojpg wrote:Dont even talk about it then if you dont care about it, I dont see why you would even bother talking about a dvd if you dont want it anyway. Some of us like extras and will pay for them thats why I want it, the HK dvd is shit for extras. Hence I want a real dvd, not just a crap coaster. I want to see what They are going to do with this comapny and its worth buying their 1st release to see and check if Bey Logans commentaries are the same etc.. no one is forcing you to buy it or even look at the dvd in any way. :)
Gah! I hate when people start with this even more then using the "some people will never be happy" line.
This is a discussion forum, the purpose of a discussion forum is to discuss.

I already knew i would not personally buy this dvd anyway from the start...i was just sharing my thoughts on the Dragon Dynasty issue.

Sorry if this upsets you.

Oh of course, what fun would a forum be otherwise?

MIHK had cropped their Police Story from 2.35/1 to 1.85/1 AFAIK. But their Police Story 2 looked like 2.35/1 (I taped it off TV in 1999) :)

MIHK used the same prints as Channel 4.

MIHK's Drunken Master wasn't 2.35:1 - more like 2.00:1. Their Shaw releases were in 2.35:1

Full frame as it was cropped on the sides or with additional video information on top and bottom?

Not sure. But I would guess unmatted as the film was shot soft matte. Remember that tree? :D

It was the same as Channel 4's TV print. Same goes for Project A I & II, Police Story I & II. All were cropped to roughly 1.78 for UK television.

Only the tree? The mat and the clapper board as well.

However, the tree is also slightly visible in the HKL version.

Lol, that's right.

That's bad, but not the filmmakers fault. It's like all those boom mikes that appear when films aren't correctly matted.

HKL needed to matte another 1cm off the bottom and it (the tree shot) would be fine.

Who are MIHK? Some long dead VHS-era Asian cinema label?

Yes. MIHK = Made In Hong Kong.
Before HKL arrived they were a very good label IMO, first introducing me to HK cinema :)

Although the full site launch will be in autumn Dragon Dynasty has put up product information for their DVD release of Kill Zone (aka Sha Po Lang). The website features a promotional trailer for Kill Zone and a promo reel for the DD label.
Although the trailer is out-of-synch at the moment it shows that Brian White has been working on it as it features his signature style of editing trailers. He even got the same voice-over man who has been hired for the old HKL promo trailers.

I'd say that's great news as it gives a good indicter Brian White has been involved in the DVD too (so less Weinstein).

Sounds good... (although the reviewer falsely claims that the HK disc isnt anamorphic, which it is ... but he admits he isnt sure about that claim)

It's a promising beginning.

Doesnt sound like Donnie Yen did himself any big favours with his criticisms of Sammo Hung...
However, if it's true, it's true. I dont know what shape Sammo is in, so I cant really judge.

If this gets released on R2 Pal, I might actually upgrade from my HK disk, just for the extras. If it doesnt, then I'll stick with my excellent R3 disk.

LD: you said Fist of Legend might be released later this year... but there's no mention of it on their site...
You think it has gone into next year's schedule?

Also, it's now interesting to see what they'll do with Tom Yum Goong: Go for a cut edited version with the new RzA soudntrack, or do the right thing and release it uncut and with it's original score...
I have serious doubts they'd do the latter.
