Thunderbolt - 3/5
I didn't remember the fight scenes were this good. Lots of beautiful women too, and ridiculously funny racing scenes.

Ghost Soup - 2/5
Looks like Iwai really can do a bad movie. After the first 20 min I was sure I was gonna rate this movie 1/5, but last 15 min was so good that I have to give it an extra point. Also liked the scene where the main character gets lost.

April Story - 4,5/5
Had to see some true Iwai greatness to get my faith back. And it worked. Unbelievably beautiful and sweet movie. Previously I considered Picnic as his best movie, but now I think this is his greatest work. One my favourite Japanese movies of all time.

Fight back to school 1 - 4,25/5

Perfect comedic timing, great jokes, realistic storyline, nice acting by Cheung Man.

Fight back to school 2 - 4,5/5

Lacks the freshness of the first one, but the jokes are better.
+ You get to see a very young Athena Chu in what seems to be her first big role.

Fight back to school 3 - 3,5/5

There's a definite lack of inspiration in this one.

Still, you get Anita Mui acting like Sharon Stone and Anthony Wong as a bald bad guy with a dead animal on his head.
So it's not ALL bad.

The Spider-man films are so average. Superman Returns is much better!

I like Pale Rider but agreed the start is better than the end. It's no Western classic but it's still decent.

Let's say I'm looking for a specific review. If you move this thread to Bullets Gold, then I'll have to perform 2 separate searches.
It's not the end of the world, but still...

I'd rather have all the reviews in the same place.

I have no problem with this thread being archived, but only if it stays in this subforum.

They have to have issues in order to make them interesting characters. Otherwise, no honest person could identify himself with the character. I'm not saying I am identifying myself with Hellboy, Batman or Spiderman, but at least I can relate to them. I understand their actions. Batman has no super powers at all, but he fights criminals as he believes that they have destroyed his life. So although he helps people, he kinda does it for himself, too. Superman however is so selfless and just perfect. Always has the right thing to say at the right moment. Clark Kent's friends are idiots as well, as they do not realize that he is Superman. I mean come on... let me put on glasses and even my pre-school teacher will identify me.

I'm talking about my problems with the Superman character here however. As for the film, the love story just didn't work well. Something is wrong when the audience (or maybe just me) likes Lois husband more than they like Superman.

Also, I would have kept the air plane scene for the finale as this was the best scene in the film.

The Spider-man films are so average. Superman Returns is much better!

At least they managed to entertain me more than "Superman Returns" did.

Not me. Agreed Superman Returns is flawed but both Spider-man films so glossy and nice. They're both really average.

Riding Alone For Thousands Of Miles 4/5

Zhang Yimou does it again, despite a few dragged out emotional beats towards the end. It's clear where his forté is when presenting drama and it is when shooting small and static. Having said that, it's a fine looking movie, layered but easy to absorb. And that is without Zhang sacrificing subtlety.

Takakura Ken anchors brilliantly and I like the choice his hat plays in regards to the emotional state of the character. I do believe reading somewhere that he announced RIDING...as being his last film.

All in all, I can name about 3 other Zhang Yimou films I like more (that would be Ju Duo, Not One Less and The Road Home) but this is nonetheless a showcase of a director still on top of his game. He makes it criminally simple to create layered filmmaking.

I enjoyed Superman Returns, it was a fine film but it was probably a bit long and serious. As LD says, I find characters like Spiderman and Batman more interesting because there more normal. Spiderman started out like a normal guy who was given his powers accidentally, and Batman has no powers. Supes is a near invincible alien, notice in the film, Spacey makes a comment that he is "not really human". Indeed.
Supes didnt look like he was having fun flying, I don't want a Christ-like figure.
