Clean (Maggie Cheung) - Canadian R1

Post by bradavon »

It looks to be a Canadian exclusive (i.e - NOT USA) as no USA stores seems to have it for pre-order:

http://www.dvdimport.com/show-title-det ... uid=294069
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E41MSG
http://www.dvdsoon.com/show-title-detai ... uid=294069 (Info only)

All I can see is it will be Anamorphic and have DD5.1 BUT whether it's uncropped (2.35:1) like the HK DVD or cropped (1.78:1) like the Korean DVD who knows.

I was about to buy the HK DVD but will wait now.

Aye it's a decent film. Very authentic performance from Maggie. omg I love her.

BTW, this is not an Asian film. It should be in the general forum.

According to DVDBeaver, the new Canadian release is a stinker - cropped down to 1.78:1.

Thanks Eva. Nice new cover art but why can't they get this right? ONLY the HK DVD isn't cropped and that's not a great release.

It's a pity the HK DVD only has DD2.0 too but considering how bad the Korean and especially Canadian DVDs are we've not got much choice. The French DVD looks vastly superior but I want to understand the whole film thank you very much.

Annoyingly CD WOW NOW only sell the Korean DVD too.

Brad, why didn't you let us know that a new R2UK release was coming? Others are interested in this film too.

Here's hoping for OAR 2.35:1 and DD5.1.

Sorry I've been pretty busy of late. I see you're able to look for yourself but fair point.
I'm not able to look at Bullets while at work anymore (stupid web filter as oddly suddenly classified it as an adult site  ). I've been down the route before asking to get sites removed and it got me no where.

I'll settle for decent quality 2.35:1.

I'd say it's doing it job correctly. You saw that pic Mark posted of Shu Qi, didn't you? :D

Yay! Someone finally got it right. The new R1US is 2.35:1 OAR progressive-encoded and has the original DD5.1 audio.

Thanks Eva. I somehow completely missed your update.

Agreed it's great to finally see a decent release. I was going to pick the HK DVD up all those months ago but am pleased I never did now.

I'm going to wait a wee while longer just to make sure the UK R2 doesn't beat it again:

* Released the 21st of August
* Released by Momemtum who usually release decent DVDs
* The extras look the same (interviews with the cast and filmmakers and the original trailer)
* Cover art: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000F ... 90719_.jpg

Yeah, I'm waiting for the reviews of the Momentum disc before I buy the film. It's highly likely that the R2UK will drop significantly price over the coming months, but the R1 will remain static at $20-ish USD like they normally do with R1 releases from small independent distributors - Fuckers.

R2UK Momentum review.

It's a mess. NTSC-PAL transfer + no DD5.1 track. R1 (Palm Pictures) is the clear winner.

It's over £10/$18 right now at DVD Pacific so to much for me. I don't like to spend over £10 on a single DVD.

Madman released this 11 days ago, any idea if the DVD is any good? It's barebones by the look of it:

I'll stick with my USA R1 more than likely.

Nah, it's the wrong aspect ratio. It's been a rental here for a while now.

Ah, thanks. It's as if, if they keep releasing it in the wrong aspect ratio it will somehow become the right one.
