Hong Kong Phooey: The Complete Series

Post by grim_tales »

There seems to be loads of classic Hanna Barbera cartoons coming to DVD, Top Cat, Whacky Races etc :D

This one, Hong Kong Phooey was produced in 1974 around the time of the kung-fu/martial arts boom.

The telephone operator Rosemary had a frighteningly short skirt (for a cartoon) IIRC :doubt:

:D

Hong Kong Phooey.. Number one super guy.... :D

I quite liked Top Cat. It reminds me of the Phil Silvers show, which apparently it's based on... I like that it's got that scheming stuff and all that. Trying to make a quick buck. It's all pretty down to earth stuff, opposed to many other cartoons which are really more for kids....

This month I can receive boomerang btw... so I've seen a bit of HK Phoey... but didnt really like it.
I enjoyed seeing the Jetsons and the Flintstones again, but not sure if I'd want it on DVD.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Top Cat is my favourite TV show!

Hong Kong Phooey was rather feeble by comparison but the theme tune and Scatman Crother's voice make it slightly better.

Top Cat was great. :D And you're right Yi, it was based on the Phil Silvers Show/Sergeant Bilko.
The guy who played Doberman in Bilko performed the voice of Benny The Balll in Top Cat.
I might pick it up on DVD if its cheap :)
