Whats wrong with the HKL updates thread?

This must be one of the Fortune Star titles then as it says "Mastered from a High Definition Transfer".

I may check it out (never seen it). I once saw the HK trailer for it though on a Siren (Australian) VHS of Police Story 3 (I think)

Grim you have the power to merge if you want to.

I'm sure it is a FS remaster as this was going to be part of the IVL OUATIC box set originally. Clearly it would've looked out of place so I guess IVL changed their mind.

It's a pity HKL often don't get interviews with the most important people being the director (John Woo for example) or the lead actor (Jet Li in this case).

I'm looking forward to this. Where did you get the info and cover art from?

I think it is actually quite impressive whom they have been managing to get in front of their cameras and to participate with their DVD presentations.

I also like the idea of listening to what other people from the crew have to say. You usually always hear what the actors and the director say. I think it is great that when HKL can't get the director or an actor, they include an interviews with other crew members, like stunt people or the componist for the films' soundtrack (Michael Lai).

Well, just my opinion, lol!

Where did you get the info and cover art from?

I get supplied with info by HKL every now and then. The cover is in the trailer section of the official site.

I agree with LD. HKL do their best with the interviews and have gotten many great names. No other distributor can compete. My current complaints rest with the audio, not the extras.

Should I bother? This looks like "Dragon Fight" which was lame to say the least.

p.s - I've only heard of about a third of the people on LD's list :mrgreen: . It seems I'm not alone. I quote from this review:

as often seems to be the case a lack of contributions from the larger names continues to disappoint.

To be fair, aside for Jet who's busy in Hollywood, Crystal Kwok and Yuen Wah are the main actors in the movie. Even if you don't regard them as big names. Tsui Hark is missing, but he has appeared on other HKL discs. To me it's the presentation of the movie that's important. Alas it seems not to be so good.

Actually a lot less than I first thought and I may recognise those are if I see a face or what they worked in.

TBH I'm not a HK fanatic like most here. I love world cinema and Asia (so therefore HK) is just part of it. Bar the odd Bruce Lee (just ETD really) flick I didn't grow up with HK cinema and only got into it after CTHD.

If that film hadn't come along I doubt I'd have ever seen any Bruce Lee flicks again or enjoyed so many other HK flicks out there. Having said that a good portion of what is considered a classic here I hate or think is average/okay at best. Drunken Master is AWFUL. Prodigal Son, Drunken Master 2, Police Story, Police Story 2 are okay at best (I wouldn't want to see them again) and Hard Boiled/The Killer are decent nothing more (i.e - I enjoyed them but they're not classics for me, much like FOL).

I love OUATIC 1-3 though, for example. FOF is utterly fantastic too.

It took you long enough to figure it out (Fulltime Killer = Gil).

Leung Kar-yan, Chin Kar-lok, Joe Cheung, Alex Law, Yuen Wah, Fung Hark-on, Richard Norton, Roy Haron, Hwang In-sik, Chin Siu-ho

Leung Kar-Yan: Famous Shaw Brothers actor who acted with Yuen Biao in Dreadnaught, Sammo in Warriors Two, Chow Yun-Fat in Postman fights back and Yasuaki Kurata in Legend of a Fighter.
You'll see him in Sammo's next film.

Chin Kar-Lok: Stuntman and Director. He had supporting roles in most of Sammo's movies. His biggest role was in Scorpion King. He had a good part recently in One Nite In Mongkok (played a cop).

Yuen Wah: The best HK movie villain of all-time. Iceman Cometh, Bury Me High, Dragons Forever, Kung-Fu hustle, Eastern Condors, etc...

Fung Hark-On: The mad rapist in Iron Fisted Monk. Usually plays bad guy roles in Kung-Fu movies (Warriors Two, Police Story, small part in Kung-Fu Hustle).

Richard Norton: Australian bad guy. Acted with Jackie Chan in Mr Nice Guy, City Hunter and Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars.

Roy HOrAn: Nice bearded gwailo who used to play bad guy roles. He was the crazy priest in Snake In The Eagle's Shadow.

Wong In-Sik: Korean Hapkido master who played the main bad guy in Young Master and Dragon Lord.

Chin Siu-Ho: Actor, brother of Chin Kar-Lok. He had a very good part in Mr Vampire 1 and Tai-Chi Master.
he played Jet Li's "brother" in Fist of Legend.

Drunken Master is AWFUL.

You know in some places they'd burn you alive just for thinking that.

Drunken Master was the first JC movie to have the perfect mix between comedy and nicely choregraphed Woo-Ping action.

LOL all those posts did indeed sound like Gil (or The Running Man/Jonathan Stathes), yet again it is Gil himself who trolls and starts arguments. Quite funny though :mrgreen: Just like the old days...

I saw him post on ADVDG too recently...

As you say Mark I dont know why Gil said "I can't comment on Project A as I dont own it" - he was the one who posted that massive rant on Old Bullets about the subs being "messed up" just because Jackie uses the phrase "gangster's moll" instead of "whore"

"Moll" was originally an old English word for "girl" BTW

The only films out of that lot I've seen are FOL and PS; I plan to see Tai Chi Master. I doubt I'll ever see the others except maybe Eastern Condors.

Did Fung Hark-On have a beard in PS?
