As if the name matters at all. If they dub it, then you can worry.

As I say no word on uncutness yet but its probably likely it will be, in which case it beats the HK DVD hands down for English speakers :) We'll just have to look past the name.

The name matters for any film. It shouldn't be changed for any reason.

I agree with you Ironmonkey, but if everything else is fine and dandy I wouldn't ignore the DVD just because of the bad name :)

Agreed but if the DVD turns out to be as good as it looks I couldn't give a fuck.

It beats the HK R3 for the Bey Logan commentary alone. I'm happy with said DVD though. They were never going to call it Sha Po Lang now were they but may the English translation would've been possible.

The funniest part is it takes two Brits to give the big American studios a run for their money in the decent HK DVD stakes :D

Let's see:
-SPL with no commentary.
-Killzone with commentary by Bey "Evil" Logan.

I'll stick to my HK disc, thankyouverymuch.

I never trusted the guy again when I learned that:
-He thinks cutting movies for overseas markets is okay.
-He fast-forwards during Jackie Chan films to get to the fights.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

If he said that I'm sure it was dry Brit-wit.

There's more to the extras than just the commentary.

We dont know: We all fast forward to the fightscenes so we never listen to the parts in between. It's probably just the sound of him fast forwarding ;)

Seriously though, if they really insist in re-naming this movie, and it seems they did, why dont the just have a reverse cover which has the original title on it, so we, the fanboys, wont have anything to bitch about!?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there will be cuts or adjustments made. It's Weinstein we're talking about.

Seriously Brad. I dont ask for much. If it's uncut and in it's original language and good quality AV and all that, I'm usually happy.

You always seem to grab back at my bitching about the R4, and I've often explained WHY I bitch about it.

I hardly recall me bitching about any HKL movies!? Or about other GOOD releases. Just about all the releases thatw ere fucked up in one way or another.

It's VERY easy to please me: just release the movie uncut and subbed in a good (enough) quality on DVD. And most fanboys feel that way.

We rather have a barebones UNCUT, SUBBED release of Fist of Legend and pay 20 bucks for it, instead of a 2 Disc tin casing release of a cut and dubbed FOL, with tons of extras and interviews and commentaries whatever...

Somehow, their marketing people, or in this case big fat bald ugly Harvey 'Jabba' Weinstein, doesnt seem to 'get' that.

And how is 'Kill Zone' gonna bring in more money!? It's a crappy re-title. Just leave it at Sha Po Lang, or AT LEAST think of a good name that would make sense regarding the movie.
As I said, sounds like a typical title Bey has come up with. His writing talent is unrivaled it seems...

Asked Bey about reverse covers for the retitled movies (one side with their own title, and another with the original). Also asked about retaining the original credits sequences, SPL explanation and title card.

If DD agreed to all of that, would you all be satisfied with that 8) ?

You've got me on that one but I don't believe the original title in "America" (quotation marks for a reason) would help either. In it's English form but Sha Po Lang no way.

What is a direct translation anyway?

No.... I also want some goddamn free chocolatechip cookies to come with it!

I just want the movie uncut and subbed... and with the stuff you just mentioned. That's all.

Not that I'll buy it, cause I've already got a great quality HK version. :D

I've asked Bey, he'll respond soon and I will post here again 8) .

Think it's "To Kill the Breaking Wolf".

Deltamac ain't bad (I've got it too) with the nice transfer e.t.c, but from memory, it seems rather bare-bonish on disc 2.

Sure, 'Killzone' may not be a great title, but I'm kinda content with it (honestly, could have been worse). In a way, it does have a slight connection (with Po controlling the area filled with triads and cops not being able to leave the station) as some members emphasized. Would be more happy to see SPL or at least something related to the whole theme :) .

Even if it does have a title change, what would stop anyone buying it? Purist reasons or just the fact it occured? If it was just the fact that it occured, then you know what the original title anyway is so there wouldn't be much to fuss over (I don't mean any offense or anything by that :) ). Besides, those are great extras and the presentation wouldn't be too shabby either. I'd rather buy it to make the business continue (to me, it's something minor which didn't leave a lot of options - even if it did have English language titles which bore relation to Sha Po Lang).

We could all be discussing over something that maybe sorted just shortly :) .

Speaking of 'Sha Po Lang', the title itself: Should it really not be advertised internationally as 'Sat Po Laang' (or whatever it is) - the Cantonese title as it's a Cantonese HK movie? I think it should because of the aforementioned reasons.

I'll definately get the DD DVD, it's got tons of extras (I probably wouldn't get it if it meant the film itself was ruined too despite having extras). A title change is hardly gonna put me off a great package otherwise, but it is upsetting all the same. I still believe it'll do better without abbreviations, nothing catchy to "SPL" alone and no-one will know what it is when looking at it in the shops and synopsis without having to actually buy/rent the movie to possibly hope you're gonna find out (which you do during the opening credits), 'Scottish Premier League' maybe :| . Unless the DVD is cut, rescored, edited (involving missing footage or changed plots e.t.c) or just messed up in some way, it's likely I'll buy it.

I wouldn't mind DD having their own version if it meant it doing well generally, just as long as the original is on there too as an option for the likes of us and as a sign of respect to the filmmakers :) .

I know I'm bitching a little and it seems like I'm defending anyone at DD, but it's just my honest opinion and I'm still Anti-Miramaxe RE butchered movies which is obviously changing big time (even if there are slight flaws) :) .

I'm thinking you're too early to think that the name of the movie is all they'll change.
Tom Yum Gong will also (AGAIN) have a new soundtrack (by RZA), so it seems that they just keep making the same mistakes...
So I think that they havent changed their ways. They'll pack it up all nice, throw some bonus-stuff on there, do a bit of marketing, and will still release a fucked up version.

Ask Bey if he can garantee uncut and subbed releases for DM2 and Fist of Legend. Just ask him that, so we can all stop holding our breath.

Personally, I seriously doubt it.

Ow... if he says it will be slightly cut and altered to suit western tastes, but it has this and this and this... (big rant about all the extras that will be on the disk) then tell him to go fuck himself.

Here's hoping that the UK release of TYG will at least be uncut and with the original soundtrack.

They can put Kill Zone on the cover but I'd expect the actual print to carry the original title. And why couldn't they call it "To Kill A Wolf" THAT's a good title!
