R4 Eastern Eye - 2 for $30NZD/£10

Post by EvaUnit02 »

Ends July 31st. If anyone wants to order through me, then that's fine (I can pick-up orders from their physical shop location). It's probably cheaper to order through me than via the international shipping that they charge. http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Help/Shipping.html

Hmmm... sounds good. I'm interested in four films, but need to find out if these versions are the ones to go for. Does anybody here have any idea if the following EE DVDs are good:

Bangkok Dangerous (love that film. Unfortunately, the German disc didn't come with any subs. WTF?)
One Take Only
Red Beard
Scandal

Red Beard and Scandal are NTSC>PAL. Dunno bout the two Thai films, ask here.

Anyone got any comment on these four:

Inner Senses
Violent Cop - I've seen screen caps and it looks great.
Bride With White Hair
Bride With White Hair II

Eva, I'm interested in your offer, but wouldn't be able to pay you as such, would you be up for some kind of trade? If not, fair enough.

Just what exactly are the symptoms of NTSC > PAL? What is the disadvantage of it?

R4 Violent Cop has a lovely progressive native-PAL anamorphic transfer (I own this).
Bride With White Hair 1 is native-PAL and the only anamorphic release of the film.
Inner Senses = native-PAL + Thai DTS.
Can't find any info on BWWH2, ask here.

Probably not, as I'd have to pay off my credit card (which I'd be charging the orders to).

Why does it have Thai DTS? No Cantonese?

Thanks.

Should be a Studio Canal port (except from the opening credits)

I can post caps from my EE if you want.

Bride with White Hair is a Studio Canal port and lovely but Part 2 is a mess:

http://madboards.madman.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=18259

Tale of Two Sisters is a AV Channel NOT Madman (Eastern Eye) DVD and is to be avoided:

grim_tales wrote:How are the DVDs of Throne of Blood and Kwaidan? :)
The first I think is NTSC-PAL and I think Criterion have a better version out the second is idenitical to the UK R2 except that has a book (not booklet).

In the case of Kwaiden it's really down to which is cheaper for you.
thelostdragon wrote:Why does it have Thai DTS? No Cantonese?
I'm sure Eva is getting mixed up with Bangkok Dangerous:

thelostdragon wrote:Just what exactly are the symptoms of NTSC > PAL? What is the disadvantage of it?
I can't always notice it but when I can it results in a rough image, kinda of like when a DVD is really over compressed.

The Canadian Pianist is a fine example (this is PAL-NTSC, same result). The USA version is Native-NTSC and looks much nicer.

Eva?

I'm not sure if it's Native PAL but otherwise it's much better than the:

UK R2 - Stereo, Anamorphic, Burnt in subs (old Tartan DVD)
R3 HK - DTS, Non-anamorphic, Removable subs

Virtually all your questions can be answered:

Here: http://www.madman.com.au/easterneye/
And here: http://madboards.madman.com.au/viewforum.php?f=12

They run a very good forum I suggest you all sign up to it. Oh here too:

https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... .php?t=169

For example Grim's Kwaiden and Mark's Bride With White Hair/Violent Cop questions have all been answered in the dedicated Bullets thread. Violent Cop as far as I can see is a no brainer.

OK.
I don't think the R2 of Kwaidan is anywhere near as cheap as a fiver. I'll get another DVD then instead of TOB if the Criterion is better.

Good point regarding Kwaidan. I don't know if TOB has a Criterion, check.

United States: $13.95 (Per order not DVD)

FYI without Eva's kind offering to the UK (thanks Eva):

$43.95 / £14.78
Each - $21.97 / £7.39

£7 a DVD is decent for a Madman release (usually over a tenner) BUT it all depends how much Eva can ship 2 DVDs to:

Germany, UK

???

I'd like, more than two is over kill IMO:

Kwaidan, The Isle

No problems, Eva. Just thought I'd ask.

I can order them myself. Postage isn't so bad in pounds, just that $14 sounds like a lot if you're unfamiliar with the conversion rate.

It is $13.95 per order which helps.

Why can you not send Eva the money but you can buy them yourself? That makes no sense.

United Kingdom: $14.95 (4-10 days expected delivery time. Shipped via NZ Post.)

How would I send the money to Eva? Besides he would have to pay postage to the UK as well and it would end up costing me the same. I was only up for trading, but he's not and that's OK.

Doesn't seem to be part of the sale... but how is THE EYE.

Been looking for an anamorphic upgrade but haven't been able to find any screen comparisons to see which is best. Anyone?

Me neither. It's one of those annoying ones no one wants to compare. On paper the R4 wins but as we know that doesn't always mean much.
Markgway wrote:Thai? You mean Cantonese surely?
Already covered further up :)
Markgway wrote:United Kingdom: $14.95 (4-10 days expected delivery time. Shipped via NZ Post.)
My bad it is. Still even then £7-8 is still decent, unless Eva can beat it.

I'm sure Eva has thought of this :D . Paypal I believe.

Again I doubt Eva would've offered if it costs us the same, no doubt he's got it covered. The whole point is it should be cheaper if Eva posts them.

Inner Senses from Tartan is due sometime this year. It's been delayed twice already.

It's going to be the same as the R4 except probably NTSC-PAL but will be cheaper after a while for us of course:

So Brad, do you want me to order them for you?
BiscLimpkit wrote:How much would you charge for shipping to UK for 2x DVDs Eva?
International air freight calculator here, use it. (CLEAN OUT YOUR EYES GRIM ;)) I think Slasher's 2046 LE was about $8 or 9nzd IIRC.

BTW there's still stacks of 2046 LEs in Borders if anyone wants one.

Of course then there's Paypal fees on top of the total and my bank's currency conversion fee of 2.1% NZD.
grim wrote:How are the DVDs of Throne of Blood and Kwaidan? :)
Eureka's Kwaidan is native-NTSC, EE's is native-PAL. Get which ever is cheaper as Brad said.

In the case of Kwaidan it's really down to which is cheaper for you.

I couldn't access the forum on the weekend cuz it kept saying the server was being upgraded, plus I had classes today (I'm a day ahead, remember).
