Film Four to launch as Free to view service
According to an article I read on Ceefax, from July Film Foyur will be a free to view service (available on Freeview, Sky Digital and Cable) instead of a subscription one.
Sounds good to me.

OMG Fucking God! That's the best news I've heard regarding TV Channels in ages.
Filmfour towers above the crud (mostly) Sky Movies decides to offer. I've been hoping for this for ages.
Freeview is doing incredibly well. I didn't expect it to become this big.
Now all we need is TopUPTV to start charging that bit more BUT offering some decent channels (DON'T try and take on Sky though, we don't want another OnDigital!).
Good work there Grim.

More info:

I imagine this also means "Filmfour +1" will be free but what about "FilmFour Weekly"? Which is currently a Sky only channel (AFAIK), it's not on Telewest cable anyway.

I don't give a shit about those top bollocks polls. I believe it's later than 3pm on the first day:
"Already a favourite among subscribing film aficianados, FilmFour is finally going free to air via Freeview on July 23. From this date viewers will be able to enjoy the dedicated movie channel free for all of its running time, making it the UK's only free-to-air movie channel.
Kicking free proceedings off on the 23rd will be Lost In Translation with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, and the channel will run daily from 3pm to 3am on channel 31. There's more good news, too, in that it looks like going free isn't going to stifle the channel's unflinching remit; for instance, ultra-violent cult shocker Wolf Creek is schedule to appear soon within the current Saturday Night Shocks series... You have been warned!
We've also just received confirmation that FilmFour will be going free on Sky too. Apparently a promo loop will start on July 20th, with the channel content beginning on July 23."

Yeah but the films are still ruined by constant agressive adverts every 5 minutes
ruins films and gets on my tits! and the stick appauling Filfour adverts before and after each break, extending it even more!
and the Poll programmes (look the best shit film ever made! top 400 that goes on for 5 days!) they do are the most embaresing shit to ever grace out TV's!
Filmfour are only going FREE as no one wanted to pay for them, so now they are Free they get far more cash from advertising alone, its all cash and really I would have to be desperate to watch a film on their channel ever!
I have watched 1 film on TV in the last 3 years, and I dont expect to watch many more in the next 3 years.
Only films I would watch is something I dont own (or have not seen in cinema) and dont expect to own.

If you watch TV I am sure you dont mind breaks etc.. I just gave up on TV a while back and dont watch antyhing now except the news and music channels (and the odd shopping channel). I like to see things when I want, not when they are on TV

Well if you forked out on a PVR (only £100) you'd be able to fastforward trough any ad break, cut it out and watch TV exactly when YOU choose.
So stop moaning and get with the times.
PVR = Hard Disk Recorder (Personal Video Recorder)
HDR/DVDR = PVR + A DVD Recorder
I have a HDR/DVDR and couldn't live without it now.
If they were to offer it without either it would go bankrupt in a few months.
Everyone else is happy a "quality" film channel is free and you're moaning Channel 4 want to make money???
Why would you have to be desperate? It's FREE. The shit films Sky show really annoy me but Filmfour has always been behind quality film.
Which is EXACTLY why it only ever had a low subscription because most people like watching Hollywood dross and wouldn't know a good film if it smacked them in the face.

You can't have it both ways. Pay the current £6 subscription fee or put up with adverts. I know which I'd prefer.romerojpg wrote:Yeah but the films are still ruined by constant agressive adverts every 5 minutesruins films and gets on my tits! and the stick appauling Filfour adverts before and after each break, extending it even more!

You sound surprised? That's exactly why it's going free. Channel 4 aren't hiding this, it's exactly why they said it's going free in the press release at the time.Filmfour are only going FREE as no one wanted to pay for them, so now they are Free they get far more cash from advertising alone, its all cash and really I would have to be desperate to watch a film on their channel ever!
