Upcoming Tsui Hark/ Ringo Lam/ Johnnie To movie

Post by dragonhero005 »

Hi everybody!

This is what I found lately. Maybe you´ve already read it, but I thought it was worth getting it´s own topic...

Johnny To, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark were all born in the 1950s and they all became famous by directing action movies in Hong Kong. Now, according to AFP, they have decided to make a new cop-thriller together. Each director will be solely responsible for one third of the film (about 30 minute long). They will not discuss their segments with each other and they will shoot it with no script at all. "Tsui Hark will first start shooting the film, then Ringo will look at the development of it before shooting the second part, and then I'll complete it with the third part," To said. Three masters will make the untitled film in a relay format. To said, "Ringo might decide everyone dies in his part and I will have to finish it off." They came out an idea of doing a movie with three independent stories during tea gatherings and later they realized that had already been done and adopted the current format. This film will be shot entirely in Hong Kong with actors from the city and the mainland China. The original AFP story mentions that making the movie is just like piecing together a jigsaw. Then two reporters, with bad English, thought it had something to do with Saw, the hit horror flick and wrote a story claiming a Hong Kong version of Saw would be made. According to an assistant of Johnny To, this project is not a remake of Saw and is not inspired by it either.

Now this sounds great, ladies and gentleman, doesn´t it?

Would be better if Ringo was going it alone....

These experimental film projects usually yield interesting results. I'd like to see Ringo make some more HK solo projects though.

Here is some good news. The shooting on "THE IRON TRIANGLE" could already start this month:
Shooting of the Johnny To, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark project, working-titled The Iron Triangle (literal), will begin in Hong Kong by the end of this month, Yu Dong, president of Beijing-based Polybona Films, told newspaper The Beijing News. Tsui Hark will begin to shoot the first one third of the movie first. According to Yu, the story begins like this: a few guys with little money and a lot to worry about gather together to chat about how to get rich. Then a mysterious man sitting in the same room approaches them with a treasure map. However, to get their hand on the treasure, the map is only the first of a series puzzles they have to solve. This is only the beginning of Tsui Hark's part, Ringo Lam has to look at the development of the story, and Johnnie To has to complete it. Three directors are solely responsible for their own parts, but Yu has assured that, when three parts are pieced together, the final film will be presented with one unified style, because three directors have known each other for many years. Currently the cast includes Simon Yam, Louis Koo, Kelly Lin and Sun Honglei.

Why do people keep hiring Louis Koo?

I don't hate the bloke but he's hardly one of HK's finest actors.

I very much liked his performance in "Bullets Over Summer" which to me showed that he is capable of good acting. I'd rather see him in a leading role than any of the HK popstars.

He was ok in Century of the Dragon as well, but I've also seen him in many shite movies.
He seems a bit limited in his acting. When he plays a quiet stoic kinda guy it doesnt matter much... but everything other then that will make it obvious.
BTW: he was burglar I believe before he became an actor...

I'd much prefer a guy like Patrick Tam Yiu Man getting ALOT more big roles, as he's an absolutely excellent actor...

Don't know... I like people who turn a new page in their life and who have learnt from their mistakes.

I prefer people who don't make such "mistakes" in the first place. Let's face it: if he hadn't become an actor he might be riffling through an old lady's house right... about... now. Why does society always show greater compasion to the prodigal son? I always hated that fucking story.

I'd rather have somebody who leaves a bad past behind him than somebody who is still to turn into an evildoer.

so mark, say you made some huge misakes in terms of gaining a criminal record or such...and turned over a new leaf...wouldnt you be pissed if people hated you and wouldnt give you a chance just becuase of your past? employers telling you to go away because you made mistakes? hmm...i wonder how you would feel if this were the case...you'd probably be whining that no-one gives you a chance.

Wow. I like him even more, now.

I think Louis Koo was great in Fantasia and Legend of Zu.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Tsui hark's first one third of The Iron Triangle (working title) has been in production for at least three days. The cast and crew were spotted at the Hong Kong's business district of Central. The scene involves Simon Yam, Sun Honglei and Louis Koo being chased by a cop played by Gordon Lam. The initial plan was to shoot the movie at the end of this year, and the planned was changed due to the overwhelming positive response from a large number of European distributors. The production company would even make the story European related to make it more appealing to the market.

Since when do HK-productions care about that?

Every since they sold "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" for a lot of money to Germany maybe? LOL! Why are you so sad about it? References to Europe could mean anything. If Simon Yam's character was born in Europe it is also a reference to Europe. What did you have in mind?

Leaving your keys locked inside the car is a mistake.

Burglary isn't.

I'm not saying Louis shouldn't be given a second chance, I just don't agree with LD's "I'd rather have somebody who leaves a bad past behind him than somebody who is still to turn into an evildoer" theory. As if we're all on the verge of being criminals, but you're safer with someone who's gotten it out their system. Most bizarre. Did Louis give up crime because he turned over a new leaf or simply because he found something more lucrative and rewarding?

Okay, you´re right... I don´t know what I was thinking about.
I just don´t want that they change the films´ style, so that it better appeals to Europe or leave away some triad-stuff, because Europeans might not understand...
