Guess I owe my friend a beer but I'm glad that Italy won. The last two goals made me grin like a toothless idiot (except I still have all my teeth).

Italy have always been frightfully unlucky in the last few world cups IIRC. The sight of sobbing Italian fans really makes me feel sorry for them. I'd have no problem if they won the tournament.

Right tomorrow I'm gonna bet that Portugal win - I need to get my pint back somehow. :D

For me, the sight of sobbing Italians makes watching those matches worthwhile :D
Don't know and hardly care anymore who will win the cup now. I dont really like any of the 3 possible winners. I'd like to see either Portugal or Italy lose because the other team dives and gets a penalty though. That would serve them right...

Come on: occasionally he does a nice little trick or a good pass, but some announcers almost have orgasms over the most simple stuff he does...
Last match he was good, and everyone called him MOTM, right? Ok... how many of those passes were actually GOOD? Not many. Most were too hard/deep.
The rest of the tournament he's been mediocre as well.
I'm not saying he's a bad player, but he's overrated just because has a nice technique and occasionally goes past a few players with a nice trick or whatever.

Back in his hey-day (which is definitely over, by the way) he was able to do all manner of things. Very much the Ronaldinho of his time, in that regard, in my humble opinion. Never really been the paciest of players, but amazing control and a really deft touch is what seperates him from the rest.

Perhaps, and I cant form a real opinion on the guy as I've never seen him play week in week out in some league or whatever, but in the Cl as well he was almost never really outstanding or very good. In France 98 he wasnt very good untill the final, and 4 years ago I'm not even sure he was there!?
So i've only seen him in international matches for France, and in European matches for juve and real, and he's never really REALLY impressed me.

So it kinda 'bothers' me when announcers go ballistic over pretty simple things he does on the pitch, while totally neglecting all the stuff he does wrong, like being invisible for whole games, mediocre passing, etc etc...

BTW: I feel ALOT of players are overrated. And many are underrated. I feel it also has a lot to do with marketing and commercials. Nike says Ronaldo is the greatest striker alive, and Brazil is the best playing team around, and we all believe the commercial.

I often wonder what people would think about Bergkamp or Litmanen if they too had just given in to doing all those NIKE commercials and going for the big-name clubs, instead of Dennis going to little clubs and really making a difference there...

Dennis could have gone to Cruyff's Barca and be a world superstar overnight.
Too bad he didnt go, but it says something about his personality that he would rather go to Inter (at the time a mediocre club) and later Arsenal (boring club)...

But Yi, Bruce Rioch's signing of Bergkamp turned Arsenal from "Boring Boring Arsenal" into the superstars we know today and they changed their style.
I would of liked to see Germany win but that was a truly cracking game, brilliant. :)

Yi what do you mean dirty Italians? In this game, fantastic game IMO, end to end stuff, no diving, little theatrics, when a player got fouled they just got up and got on with it.

And that's exactly why I think bergkamp is the bigger player. instead of just picking the easy future by going to a huge clubs where all his teammates would also be great players so he could easily win lots of prices, Bergkamp actually went to smaller clubs and helped them improve and made them much better. Bergkamp at that time could have gone easily to ANY of the biggest clubs, yet he didnt cause he just wanted to play football each and every week.

And why I call them dirty? Are you serious? The only reason they didnt dive and roll around yesterday was because we had a great ref that hardly blew his whistle, except when neccessary. I'm sure that if this would have been a ref that stops play every minute or so for all the minor stuff, the Italians would have kept going to the ground easily. yesterday they noticed the ref wasnt going to do that so they kept the theatrics at home and actually played some good football. I wish they'd do that each and every match, but sadly, as we all know, they have a bunch of divers and cheaters in their squad.

The ref was great yesterday. Both teams played pretty good, and as a result of that, we saw a great match. :)

Listen, if Italy would ALWAYS play like they did yesterday, I'd be a big fan. but you know that usually they play more defensively, more on the counter, and often with lots of theatrics and hard fouls.

Yeah, I did know that (but for their blatant cheating, Australia would of played in the Quarter Finals). But yesterday they were great. I agree with you about the referee :)

Ow yeah, like I said: If Italy would always play like they did yesterday, I'd be a fan of Italian football. But normally they dont play that offensive. So it was nice to see Lippi choosing to play offensive good football. All his subs were also offensive players I believe!?

And yeah, I certainly would have preffered Australia going through instead of Italy. Italy really shouldnt have gotten that penalty.

If they really win this tournament, they can say thanks to GROSSO.
It was him who got the penalty and him who scored the 1:0 against Germany.
He was on the right place at the right time.

I hope that France will go through and that we´ll see a good finale.
Maybe Italy can take revenge for the lost finale of the Euro 2000.

You mean taht half-volley that went flying in the top corner? yeah seen it, good goal. But what I mean is that he hasnt been great consistently in a WC/CL. I mean a player that in each match really makes the difference, creates goals, etc etc. Someone who's important to the team in pretty much every match.
Zidane has too often been completely invisible during long periods of matches...
As I said, I dont know how he was in the spanish/italian league, so I'm only judging him on those matches that I've seen him.

Tonight: Glad France is through, although the penalty was ... it was a trip, but it was a harsh decision nontheless...
Sad how Henry is behaving in this WC. He went down very easily to get the penalty, while it was a light trip and he could just as easily went on and just scored the goal.

I know it's 'proffesional', and all that... but still...

the portuguese player who dived in the 2nd half, instead of just simply taking the ball and shooting it on goal was a disgrace as well. He could have easily received it, yet he pretended he was pushed/pulled or whatever and went down.... what a worthless fucker. Should never be allowed near a pitch again.

Yeah, especially the portuguese were a disgrace, so I'm happy they lost due to a discutable penalty... :D

What a crap game compared to Italy-Germany. Portugal (and Ronaldo a few times) were a disgrace with their diving

I thought the French penalty was soft.

The Portuguese were a disgrace and I'm glad they're gone.

I think I'd like France to win - by and large they've been more honest and a better team than Italy.

Agreed Sam. WTF was Zidane thinking, the ref was 100% correct in sending him off. What a disgraceful end to the career of a great player :? :(
