Really dig the movie as a whole, very stylish and violent. Always easy to single out Gigi Leung's performance as well, especially due to

her death scene. Never seen anything quite like that.

Lone Wolf and Cub: Babycart in the Land of Demons - 3.75/5

The series seems to be getting rather slow moving and brooding at this stage for some reason, with more drama (not a bad thing in itself) and less emphasis on bloody battles and swordfights (what there is is great though). The different names of all the Clans or whatever confuse a bit.
One scene near the end is quite funny, where Daigoro and Lord Mastsumaru's son (?) keep making eye contact, whenever theyre in shot you can see each of them winking, or smiling, or sticking tongue out to camera

As do I. The original is a classic. The remake is MTV-era pants for people with no attention-span.

Funny... I think the exact opposite, except substitute MTV-era for disco-era. Someone told me that the Night of the Living Dead remake is better than the original as well.

Finally, my replacement for the faulty disc arrived and I was able to watch the ending now in full grace. The first time around it stopped right before Huo is about to fight the Japanese guy. They were even given their weapons already.

But I didn't only watch the ending again. Watched the whole film from the beginning and I love it. Really curious for the Michelle Yeoh-character as we do see her at the end of the film standing in the crowd with a little girl.

That's what I thought at first, but when I finished the film I rewinded to the scene where we see Qin's widow after Huo comes to pay his respect. It's not the same woman, man.

The Lady and the Duke (4 out of 5)

Okay, I'll be honest. This film dragged on like a history lesson, which in essence it was. That's not to say it wasn't well-done, though. The character of Grace Elliot, the 18th century Scottish courtesan, was well fleshed-out and believable. The film covered the events in this refined, yet passionate, woman's life during the French Revolution, mainly through her relationship with her former lover and dear friend, the Duke of Orleans. Although the film has some suspenseful moments, there is no single plotline to hold it together, and instead, it comes across more as vignettes from her diary over the course of several years. What makes this film stand out, however, is the ingenious use of digital backgrounds to re-create Paris of the 1790s. The backdrops against which the film's characters move are clearly not real, yet they are remarkably fascinating. It's almost as if the characters from history are acting out their parts in paintings of the period.

In short, this film won't have you sitting on the edge of your seat, but it still wins high marks for artistic ingenuity and good acting.

Actually I happen to agree, even though very few critics would admit to it. The remake of NIGHT is a rarity in that it's sharper and better acted, and rather than repeat the original twist ending, they thoughtfully offer us a new one. But I maintain that the DAWN remake isn't a patch on the Romero classic. It's like the teenage version of what was an adult film. Where's the satire for a start?

The satirical approach to Dawn is what ruined it IMO. The commentary on paranoia, consumerism and social values just did not fit in with a slow, 2hr, cheesy dialogue ridden zombie flick.

It was an original idea - contrasting social issues with cheap gore - but it didn't mix very well.

My favourite Romero film is Night (not seen Day), but I found that to be very OK.

A good horror/sci-fi satire I thought was Starship Troopers.

I never bought into the hidden message and neither does Romero sometimes, as critics see what they want to see and he doesnt disagree if they put a tag on his film to make more people see it. Same goes for Starship Troopers, bollocks to a stupid satire shit tag, its an action film with amazing effects and action.

Its a zombie film plane and simple, a brilliant one

I dont get upset when people disagree mind you, unlike many who go crazy over shit like that, as they are loosers

Watched this because of Sean Bean. Too bad the film stinks. I never enjoyed unrealistic horror films like "Ring", "Ju-On" or "Dark Water". This isn't really different in terms of its fantasy aspect. I rather like solid horror films that don't rely on monsters, ghosts or children who come back from the dead.

Cars (2006 - Pixar) : 5/5 before watching the climax, 0/5 after watching the climax

The final racing scene goes against every form of logic (the loser is a hero... BOLLOX !

) and completely destroys the film.

That's too bad, because the rest of the film is top-notch.
