From Dusk Till Dawn is great fun. I think the flip worked really well for the film, as there was a huge spate of Tarantino-esque films around that time, and it just threw the viewer completely by turning into a vampire flick.

As for Grindhouse, I'm not sure if it's the same story split in two, or if it's two distinct stories, with different characters...

I think From Dusk Till Dawn is one perfect film really

I dont know why, but the cast has a lot to do with it thats for sure.

Grindhouse seems to be 2 stories yes tottally different as far as they are letting on

just similar themes, in other words violence and shocks and thats about the only link. Personally I hate these types of film as 60 minutes isnt long enuff to tell a great story and you are always wanting more if one segment is excellent.

I recently re-watched From Dusk Til Dawn, and it's gone from being a 4/5 (when I went to the cinema to see it) to a 3/5, but it's still very good. I love the opening with the guy in the store ("I didn't fucking give him a signal!!!"..etc. etc.) and Tom "Sex Machine" Savini fantastic extended cameo runs away with the film. What a great character.

FDTD is one of the best theater experiences I ever had. I remember how me and my friends used to smuggle ourselves into the cinema as this was rated 18. We were like 13 or so. We sat there wondering why this was an 18 film. We didn't know anything about the vampires in the film before. So awesome.

I have my doubts about the 2 sequels, but will check them out sooner or later.

The 2 sequels are very average. The one with Robert Patrick (which I think is No. 2) is okay, but the 3rd is forgettable.

Funnily enough, this was my first '18' film too. I was 16 at the time. Only me and one or two other people in the cinema.

It's an OK piece of entertainment I suppose. Not to be confused with a good film.

I'm not a fan of Rodriguez or his mindless style of filmmaking, but do conceed there's some guilty pleasure value in his films.

I don't own any of them except The Faculty, which I actually think is by far his best work. Bring on the flames...................

That was a '15' over here. I saw it at the cinema too. The BBFC only cut a bit with nunchakus.

My first 15 and 18 were The Peacemaker and Scary Movie respectively (at the cinema). I was underage by one year at both screenings. Man my memory rocks imo. 8)

From Dusk Till dawn 2 and 3 were crushing to me as I expected some real sequels with budgets

they are ok films and I dont mind them, but far from part 1 thats for sure. I havent watched them since I bought them on dvd when they were released.

I saw Terminator 2 in the cinema and Alien 3 my 1st 15 and 18 I think

You cannot beat them 2 any of you

I nearly peed myself watching T2 and was speechless for about 15 minutes after it finished, very nice memories about that time and still a draw with Aliens for best film of all time for me

I'm struggling to remember what my first 18 film in the cinema was, but my first 15 was Die Hard 2, and it was awesome. I do remember getting in to see 18 movies around the time of Pulp Fiction and Leon though. I remember getting a real kick of getting in when under-age. Getting into a pub under 18 didn't give me the same turn on.

I think I saw American Beauty and End of Days (rated 18 ) when I was 17

I remember seeing Mrs. Doubtfire when I was 11 1/2 or something, and the Brighton cinema I went in at the time had rated the film a 12 for some reason (?) I had to presuade my mum to let me in

Romero wasnt Alien 3 a cinema 15?

The Wild Bunch - 4/5

Surprised how much I liked this. The film is about the passing of the old west - not through the eyes of the usual heroes - but of the people who are usually the bad guys in Westerns - outlaws and bandits. The action and slo-mo battles are great

I saw American Beauty when I was 14. It was rated 14 here

Saw Goldeneye (rated 16, uncut of course) when it was released. I was 9 back then. Saw The Rock a year later (also rated 16, and uncut). The only 18 film I ever saw in the cinema when I was underage was Kill Bil Vol. 1. I prepared for it by not shaving for a few weeks

I think I was 10 or 11 when I secretly watched Basic Instinct on TV. Almost gave me nightmares. After the film I had to check under the bed to make sure there's no Sharon Stone in there...

I also have great memories of watching Robocop, Point of No Return (Nikita remake) and Commando way too young. Those movies were released cut on video, but everything was uncut on TV 8)

It was given a '12' by the BBFC. Some local authorities overturned the decision (wrongly, IMO) and gave it a PG. I would've been most displeased to have taken a young child to hear jokes about sexually transmitted diseases and vibrators. But that's Britain for you.

I first saw Basic Instinct on VHS when I was 13. The only bit that freaked me out (a bit) was when the rock star gets his face punctured with the icepick. That was extreme for a mainstream film (and cut from the R-rated print). Now I check IN my bed for Shazza the shagger and get disappointed when no one is there!

Saishu heiki kanojo - 3,5/5

Loved it, even though it wasn't nearly as good as it could've been. The main problem was a rather surprising one; the image looks technically poor. An epic sci-fi film like this should look pristine, instead Saikano looks more like a low budget or a documentary film. Maybe Toei ran out of money or something. The visuals themself are great, though. Too bad the image quality doesn't do them justice. Other than that, there's no major problems. The love story could've been deeper, but it works. The quality of the CGI varies from poor to perfect. They could've chosen a better director, though. Ohmi Suga does decent job, but his directing feels slightly bland. The source material is awesome, and he doesn't fail with it, but I believe some other, more visionary director could've made even more out of it. Nevertheless, the film features some scenes that are so great they almost make me cry.

I didnt know that re: Mrs. Doubtfire Mark. I'm almost certain the cinema version I saw (Brighton Marina cinema - I think) was 12 rated and the ads I saw at the time on TV rated the film 12, on the BBFC site it says the film was rated PG in May 1994 and cut by 13s, can't remember what was missing though.
