The Lord of the Rings - 2 Disc EE's?!

Post by grim_tales »

These look interesting.

I'm not going to sell/get rid of my EE's - it must be said these new DVDs lack DTS BUT it seems you can watch either the TC or EE via seamless branching and there's also a brand new documentary, which could be quite long. (They're feature length).
I must say the cover art looks nice.

Sorry about the image, I tried resizing it so it was bigger but it just looks odd :(

I don't know, I will prob not get this, and keep my EE, as I'm happy with them. Seamless branching is cool, but the documentary on the extended are really really good..
The cover art is really good thou, love thoses..

I will keep my EE too, won't you double dip Slasher? The new documentaries could be very good.

I've known that this was coming for years, they screened a rough cut of the new doco (the FOTR episode) back in 2003 at the NZIFF. The docos were created for the eventual Hi-Def releases.

Hey Grim, Nah might not, I'm happy with the Extended release, will you double dip? Truely? I might want to see the new docu, but getting another version would be expensive just to see the same film. Do you reckon they will have remastered the a/v? It looks good at the moment, so i don't know if they would do anything to change it.

I'm not getting them either. Double dipping on an already perfect release? No thanks. But then again they have wonderful cover arts, he he he! Seriously, though. I don't even think I'd double-dip when the HD versions are released and I'd have an HD TV. The A/V quality is good enough right now.

I *may* double dip for the new documentary if its good, but on the face of it lots and lots of behind the scenes footage (with no narration or anything to put it into context) sounds dull.
I doubt the AV would be remastered but then I found the AV on all 3 EE's sensational, what do I know? :)

I'd wait a few years HD versions to become affordable, the current 4-discers are more than enough for now. These new docos will extras on the HD releases.

I'm getting those model EE's, but the only way I'm gonna buy the films again (once I receive this lot) is when they go the way of HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

LOL I knew you Grim would bring these rubbish re-releases up.

I saw then a few days ago on DVD Active and thought "very much inferior to the older DVDs" moving on. If you really want both cuts the two disc Theatrical Cuts are cheap as chips.

If they were somehow better than fair enough but they're far from even coming close. No DTS, No commentaries, less overall extras. Seamless branching is great but it's not needed here when like I said the theatrical cut DVDs are so cheap anyway.

Come one Grim you know you won't actually double dip :D , you hate double dipping you've said yourself.

Have you really watched every second to death of the hours of footage released on the 12 discs already out there?

That's exactly what people said about VHS when DVD just came out. I went back to a few videos recently (one was even a proper retail video) and OMG the quality is atrocious.

I struggled to even finish the video.

You're right I did say that I hated double dipping fair enough. I hate upgrading more :D
I've watched all the documentaries on LOTR EE's but I don't think I've heard any of the commentaries yet (certainly not all of them).
