The original 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street, which spawned eight feature films, a TV series and a new wave of teen slasher movies, is being prepped for a special-edition DVD release Sept. 26 as part of the studio’s premier Infinifilm line.
Using the Infinifilm option, viewers can access behind-the-scenes documentaries, interviews and other extras as they are watching the film, so the bonus materials can be digested in context.
Among the bonus features New Line is preparing are audio essays with director Wes Craven and star Robert Englund; documentaries on the franchise’s origins and its legacy; a trivia challenge; and a making-of feature.
“Many DVD features that are now considered the standards of the home entertainment experience were born at New Line, and we continue to push the envelope,” said Stephen Einhorn, president and COO of New Line Home Entertainment.
Indeed, the release of Nightmare follows another New Line release that’s generating lots of advance buzz for its innovative bonus materials, Final Destination 3: Thrill Ride Edition. The two-disc DVD, due July 25, has a groundbreaking “Choose Their Fate” interactive viewing option that lets viewers adjust the course of the film — and the fate of some of the characters.
To do this, the New Line DVD team worked closely with director James Wong to build the alternative scenes into the script and schedule additional time during the shoots. In one scene, a character’s head is sliced open by a dislodged engine when a runaway truck smashes into a row of cars. In the alternative take, he’s pulled out of a convertible, his head intact, only to cause mischief later in the film.
Einhorn calls the Final Destination 3 DVD “a groundbreaking project that truly pushes the limits of the DVD format. It puts viewers in the director’s chair, allowing them to change the course of the story with the possibility of multiple outcomes.”
Sounds very cool, I have the Nightmare USA Boxset, but may get this one and also def going to get FD3 just for the special feature
Can you watch the extras as stand alone on Infini Film or do you need to "follow the white rabbit" so to speak? I hate that interactive shit.
Yes also hoping it is the uncut version and not the MPAA release. Can you believe it UK Video had the uncut version, but they released the US version. Why couldn't they do a Friday the 13th release (whereas WB released it uncut, and US got the cut version)
I have the original Fox retailer and to be honest you probably wouldn't notice the difference without looking... but that's not the point is it?
No problem Marky
LOL yeah to be honest there is no difference, expect for a few frames on slashed cuts on tina body, when freddy is cutting her up. But of course, we need to have it
I wonder if they will also include the extra where johnny depp gets killed, all the blood comes out, then his skeleton comes out as well
Read this on Wes Craven Dreams and nightmare book, and they had filmed it, but he decided to cut it from the film.

Me too
It looks good on paper I'm sure but never works very well and the idea of having to watch a film just to spot that annoying icon no thanks.
If the only option is to watch it interactively I rarely to never bother.
The X-Men DVD had the option to at least watch the deleted scenes separately if you wish. X-Men 1.5 they removed this option so you have to watch it with all the glorious pausing or try and work out where the deleted scenes are placed
I hate Multiangle features the most, I watched an extra for Stealth the other day and it had 2 camera angles and you can only view one at any moment. I would much rather they just showed all 3 one after each other, as once you see soemnthing once I cannot be arsed to watch it again and mess about.

It was a few extra frames of her landing in the pool of blood on the bed that were cut so that the brief splash effect was cut
What frames/shots were cut from the Johnny Depp bed murder. I couldn't tell just from watching the Fox tape.
What no one is excited about Final Destination 3: Excuse me while I get excited edition?

Agreed. Multiple camera angles works pretty well with live shows, shame they rarely ever use it.
It's really only used for porn and then not often (so I think).

I know you're joking, but no ones cares. The "in what creative way will the next character die?" gimmick can only sustain interest in a highly forgettable franchise for so long.

Ahh thanks for clearing that up Mark, I don't think anything is cut from Johnny Depp murder. I think it is just the Tina murder
Can't wait to check out the extras for this dvd, I like Wes Craven commentary and his interviews.
I've read that the Johnny Depp murder is definately cut by a few secs but I don't know what exactly is cut. As I said just watching the Fox left me blank. I would need the R-rated version to compare side-by-side. I just thought you might know being a Slasher.

I've only seen the first as I was led to believe from more than one person it was really inventive and well made.
Yeah right it's utter rubbish. The "only" decent bit was when That silly bimbo got run down by the bus.
Hey Mark, I have recently got a fanedit of Nightmare on Elm Street UK VHS, which also has included some extended scenes put in. As yet I haven't fully watched it, but there is an outake reel with Johnny Depp murder and yes it is more.
The Final Destination movies are briliant (well part 1 and 2). Part 2 has got the best crash sequence in film history, absolutly staggering sequence of events! and a few of the deaths are amazing too, esspecially the 1st one in part 2. They may not be perfect films, but they do have some wonderful parts in them.
4 Stars for part 1 and 2 from me, part 3 went stupid and ruined the trilogy sadly
Oh wow!!!, that does look really really good. Def going to get this, shame about the r-rated cut thou... Surprised by New Line, as they do unrated dvds
The image quality is better than the previous disc, BUT, I'm not sure if the colour grading is right. Look at Nancy when her dreams being monitored. She's bathed in a cold blue, yet this scene takes place in the daytime. It looks nice, but seems wrong. The old release may be more accurate and is how I remember the scene. Also the new print is a touch darker than it should be obscuring some detail in the picture (look at the boiler room caps).
