Mark was the girl in the denim shorts from Croatia or something? I really liked the girl in the really short red dress (one of the performers) - very nice.

I missed all the actual songs but don't really care.
Sometimes I got my parents to write fake notes to get me out it - especially on fucking Athletics Day.
Man I hated that day too (as I said). I never asked my parents to write me fake notes but would often try and be ill on the day I had to play sports.
I was pissed that Spain decided to do their count in French.
Oh yeah that was it I couldn't put my finger on what language it was. We expect the French to speak solely in French (A Frenchmen bar Tom speaking English never :D) but that was weird. Why weren't they speaking Spanish?

I'm sure everyone else spoke English. Didn't the host's speak each number in French too, why?

Was I the only one who thought she had an American accent? It definitely didn't Greek.

Why no 9 and 11?

p.s - I still find it weird Israel is part of the Eurovision song contest (and I hear European football) when it's nowhere near Europe.

Don't all the judges do their count in French? Not sure why :? Israel is a member of the EBU (or something) so can enter Eurovision I thought?
I agreed with Wogan though that getting all 37 countries (including those who were in the semi final) was bloody stupid IMO, it was fine with just 24.

Yeah that is weird but fair enough all countries can still vote.

It makes you wonder how bad the semi-finalists must be to not even get into the finals. Why aren't the semi-finals televised?

The results are always spoken by the presenters in English and French, but since Spain has NOTHING to do with France I've no idea why they chose to announce in French. Probably just to piss off the English speakers, cheeky barstools. Everyone knows French is an inferior language. :D

I don't remember which country the denim shorts girl was from. I was too busy beating off.

Maria Menounos will co-host both the Eurovision Semi-Final and Final on 18 and 20 May alongside Greek singer Sakis Rouvas.

Maria Menounos

Maria was born on 8 June 1978 in Medford, Massachusetts, USA. She is of Greek ancestry and speaks fluent Greek.

Maria started her professional career as a model. In 1996, she became Miss Massachusetts Teen USA. While studying at Boston's Emerson College, she started to work as reporter for Channel One News doing interviews and background stories. It was then that she met the current US President George W. Bush.

Channel One News was Maria’s springboard to other jobs in the news industry. In 2002, she started to work for ‘Entertainment Tonight’. Three years later, in 2005, Maria accepted another challenge: she became an actress.

She played Eva Adara, in the 2005 James Bond production “From Russia with Love" and she played the role of Sexy Nurse in ‘The Fantastic Four’, attracting the attention of a group of astronauts. TV viewers know her as Jules in ‘One Tree Hill’ or as Glinda in ‘One on One’.

As well as acting, Maria continued to host big celebrity events such as the ‘Countdown to the Oscars 2004’. Insiders say that the diamond-studded dress she wore for this occasion was worth more than US$2.5 million.

More about Maria here on the website of the host broadcaster ERT.

What did you guys think of the Dutch guy reading the scores? The one who made some flirtatious jokes with the greek host, gave his phonenumber, etc etc :)
I read the rest of Europe didnt really appreciate him, but that was pretty much the only part of the show I saw, and I quite liked it.

Hes a very famous host here in Holland, and very VERY funny. A very sweet guy but also makes 'sensitive' jokes, but everyone KNOWS he's only joking and genuinly cares about people. Although ofcourse SOME people are so uptight and 'politically correct', that they take offence at everything he says or does :)
He had Robbie Williams on the show a while back and they had a great time together. it was only meant to be 10 minutes and some promostuff for Robbies new CD, but they went like :' fuck robbie's management' and just made a nice evening out of it. :)

I "knew" she was American my brother disagreed. In the whole of Europe they pick the one American (not literally) and an actual Greek woman couldn't be found in the whole of Greece?

The fact she has Greek parents really doesn't mean shit, to me anyway. She's NOT European and for this it's important.

Yeah that was funny. Which Europeans didn't like it?

I believe the article mentioned the BBC broadcaster Terry Wogan didnt like his lame 'gay' jokes (about the shirt, the phonenumber, etc)
''Who ordered this idiot we just saw with his stupid gay jokes. This is so pathetic and a disgrace to the Eurovison Songcontest. Good God... what an idiot.''

Ah well, on youtube many responses are pretty positive, so perhaps the dutch newspaper was overexaggerating and making a big deal out of nothing (it's a bit of a crappy newspaper, rightwing and tabloid shit and all that...

Dutch humour? Now there's an oxy moron.

I heard the accent, but wasn't sure if she was affecting it to sound more cosmopolitan or something. Her grasp of English seemed a little shaky at times - use of incorrect words, etc - which is what made me wonder. But then she IS American... 8)

That was pretty much the response in our house.

Well... I guess it's much funnier when you know the guy. For one, he himself is gay, so he wasnt really making gay jokes just to insult gays or anything :)
Anyway, his 'fans', and I'm one of them, really like his style. Very loose, open, honest, relaxed and at times hilarious. He's one of those guys who can say or do the most horrible, horrific things, then with one glance at the camera you're assured again that it's all a big joke. A bit like Jonathan Ross can say really far out, gross things, or mean things, but you know he's only kidding.
But this dutch guy gets WAYYYyyyy more involved with his audience, and the show is just one big, fun mess. When he has famous guests (a couple each show), they just also often sit in the audience, enjoying the rest of the show together with the crowd. He's just very funny and open en honest. And if you arent familiar with him, he might strike you as mean. :D
My girlfriend just started watching him the last 2 seasons orso, and also really likes his shows, but also often is very very shocked when the guy does his 'harder' stuff... ("you cant say that to a granny!!!" "I SAW HIS ASS!" etc etc)

BTW Mark, perhaps you're confusing 'dutch' humour with 'german' humour?

When it says that woman was in From Russia with Love I guess they mean the video game.
