Just got stung by cutoms :(

Post by gasteropod »

I just thought I'd let my misery be known. I ordered Lost: Season One from Play USA the other week, and a Royal Mail card came through the door this morning saying that I've got to pay a customs charge of £9.77 for it. It is a big box set, but why exactly do you have to pay customs charges when you've already paid for the postage or the shop has?

:(

Some shit about import duties I think, if you buy anything that costs over £18 from outside the EU, you incurr the wrath of customs. :(

How much did Lost S1 cost you BTW?

It was £34.99 I think. I've been lucky previously then, because I've ordered several South Park box sets costing around £20 from America and never had any problems.

Did that include customs? If you had to pay £40+ for it, ouch :(

£34.99 not including customs. I know it's only £29.99 in the UK, but I wanted it in NTSC with the digipak case which I don't think the UK one has.

Yeah, your story was worse though LD, but thanks :)

It was £27.99 at movietyme for the Region 1 version so you should have asked 1st and we could have saved you lots of cash :D

Customs are evil, there is no other way to even talk about them :(

Shit. It gets worse. I've just been watching Disc 1, got to episode 3 (well the first episode after the two pilot ones) and the picture goes all blocky and sticks during the 'Previously on Lost' bit and refuses to play. I've cleaned the disc and tried it several times but it just keeps doing it. I am so mad, because it's going to be a right pain. I'll probably get charged another tenner from customs when I receive a replacement, and what if that one has the same fault? This has totally ruined my birthday (Lost is my present from my mum). :(

Well I've just phoned Play and they said that I won't get charged by customs on the replacement because the price on the packaging will say £0.00, so that's all right. I'm still worried about it having the same fault, though.

I just had to pay 15€ to the customs for a 25€ boxset.
FUCK FUCK FUCK !!!

And I thought DVDPacific was pretty much customs-safe...
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Bastards!

I love YesAsia as they are sending VAT free to Germany as well now. Yahoo! The last package I got from them was sent from Belgium. Aha!

No way are dvdpacific custom safe. I had brought the plantium boxset of Neon Genesis Evangelion and got stung as well. I had to pay a tenner for Royal mail in import duties. Last time I am using dvdpacific for boxset, will just use Movietyme instead
