Variety is reporting that Bill Kong, producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero is set to produce a live action version of the anime feature Blood: The Last Vampire. The live action adaptation will be directed by Ronny Yu (Fearless, Freddy vs. Jason) and shot largely in English. Yu has been interested in directing a live action version of Blood: The Last Vampire since 2003 (see "Live Action Blood: The Last Vampire"), and now it appears that he will get his chance.
Production I.G. is responsible for the stylish Blood: The Last Vampire anime, a taut 48-minute exercise in horror set in an American airbase in Japan during the Vietnam War. Blood: The Last Vampire, which was written by Mamoru Oshii, was the fastest selling anime DVD in the history of Manga Entertainment when it was released in 2001 (see "Blood: The Last Vampire Sets Manga Record"). The stylish Blood:The Last Vampire anime has inspired video game and manga adaptations, and Production I.G. has also announced Blood+, a TV anime series based on the feature film.

Who said it was based on the manga? Blood was originally envisioned as a 3-part OVA series (and later a cross-media franchise) for the animation house Production I.G. to experiment with CGI/blending CGI and traditional cel-animation. They either ran over-schedule/over-budget so they only produced the middle part of the proposed OVA series.
The manga "Blood: The Last Vampire 2000" is a sequel set in modern times. I don't like the artist Benkyo Tamaoki much either.
The best mangas I have read are: "Vagabond", "Dragon Ball (Z)", "Lone Wolf & Cub", "Shamo" and "Naruto" which I am currently reading.
You consider DBZ good?! Broaden your palette, say to something which isn't shit - Berserk for example.
Never really liked "Berserk". It gets so repetitive. The guy can't die so I wasn't really thrilled by it.
EDIT: Forget it, I was thinking of "Blade of the Immortal".
Yes, I have heard about "Berserk". I'll probably rent the DVDs of it one day. Not buying the manga series, as there are 30 volumes and it's too much if you consider that I am still finishing to read four or five other mangas.
Oh, totally forgot to add "Gantz" to my favourites. I love this manga.
Overall, I much prefer to read mangas than to watch animes (with the exception of Miyazaki/Ghibli-films).
And yes, I do consider DBZ good. I rate it really highly. It is funny, thrilling and the fights are really awesome. The manga is way better than the boring anime.
Akira Toriyama is a cool mangaka if you ask me. I also like his "Dr. Slump"-series a lot.
Sexy little girl to play the part of Blood, stick a sword in her hands and hey presto the film has to be great Wil it be an american or asian filmthe important thing, as english and asian films are so different. I dont mind either, as long as the films good.
Personally I think Blood is amazing to look at, easily some of the best animation. Story wise it would have been nice to see the rest of the story as 50 minutes just isnt long enuff.
Production I.G has announced that 'Blood the Last Vampire,' produced in 2000, will be made into a live action movie by company French Pathe. Production I.G has given it's consent. Pathe will spend approximately 20 million Euro (US$25 million) on the production. With shooting scheduled
to start in January 2007, a worldwide theatrical release is expected in spring 2008.
The original movie won best animation at the 4th Japan Media Arts Festival and spawned a TV-series 'Blood+' produced from 2005 to 2006. Copyright holder Production I.G. gave it's consent for a live action production by French Pathe through American video distributor Manga Entertainment.
Pathe is the largest independent film studio in France, producing movies, distributing them and managing their movie licenses. The movie will be produced by Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero) and directed by Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason). Ji-hyun Jun (My Sassy Girl, Windstruck) will star as lead Saya. The international production aims for a world wide audience.
Production I.G was not payed for the license, but will instead to receive royalties from all revenue created by the movie. Generally, when manga and
anime are adapted into live-action movies outside of Japan, remake rights are usually sold for a flat fee, which in the case of a hit, bars the original copyright holder of further revenue.
If the movie is a hit, this will lead to a sharp increase in revenue through ticket and dvd sales. Since the movie's theatrical release is expected in spring 2008, impact on Production I.G's profits is likely to be seen 2009 or later.Sauce
Japanese actress Koyuki, known for her roles in the live-action TV drama series Ikebukuro West Gate Park and Kimi wa Pet, as well as in The Last Samurai (alongside Tom Cruise), is joining the cast of the upcoming live-action Blood: The Last Vampire feature film. She will play a new character who was not in the original anime the movie is based on, and will at one point fight the hero of the story, Saya. Blood: The Last Vampire is being produced in Hong Kong, entirely in English, with Chris Nahon as the director. The role of Saya is played by Korean actress Ji-hyun Jun (credited as Gianna Jun), and the film will open internationally next year. Source: Tokyograph

The last that I checked, directing duties were handed over to French director Chris Nahon and not Ronny Yu. Is he back in the director's chair or something?
Ronny Yu is an inconsistant director but The Bride With White Hair and Fearless prove he can pull it out the bag when he wants to.
Never been a fan of Manga but then I confess I'm not really into animation as a whole so I'm not one to judge. I don't own a single animated movie in fact.

Noticed how old the thread is? I couldn't be arsed editing it. The Koyuki casting announcement mentions Nahon directing, I'd thought that'd be sufficient. I'll edit the thread then.
Her acting is dreadfull and she doesn't even look all that IMO - same goes for JJH. I'm sure this film would suck irrespective of cast or director because that's just the way things go. But this just assures it.
