Rare titles at DVD United - worth buying?

Hey,

I just had a look at DVD United, they have some very rare/OOP titles there (for some reason I thought of them as Gojensen mentioned the rare Korean "Hard Target" DVD), are any of these worth buying?

The Skyhawk (1974) - one of Kwan Tak Hing's last roles as WFH apparently (Magnificent Butcher excepted).

The Sword (Uncut) (1980)

Fist of Legend (Ritek) (1994) - definitely like to see this somehow but its quite expensive, it is a very rare DVD though.

RITB (uncut original language VCD)
Black Mask (Uncut Taiwan version).

Fist of Legend (Ritek) is atrocious quality. I have it but can't bring myself to sit through to the end.

OK fairy muff, the WFH title looks interesting though, I've never seen any of the KTH films.

Don't let me put you off but personally I'd stick with a bootleg DVD from the French DVD or the MIHK video.

I have the MIHK VHS yes, thats fine

Doesnt the French DVD only have the "video" from the Miramax cut? :unsure:

Nope. It is the full uncut version (not the Taiwanese cut though).

If you watch it in English it is the Miramax cut though. If you watch it in Cantonese like I did it's uncut.

OK thanks. I'm sure the French DVD has NO ENGLISH SUBS though (not even "Ingrish" like the rare Taiwan cut of The Killer). :unsure: I dont have a DVD Rom so cant rip the subs onto the DVD

The Ritek Fist of Legend isnt that bad....certainly preferable to any western release because of the original soundtrack

Yeah but doesnt everyone speak Mandarin, even the Japanese characters? I realise at the "time" (ie when the film is set) the Chinese people would of spoke Mandarin but not the Japanese.

Yes everyone speaks Mandarin and yes you're right it should be in Mandarin with Japanese. Actually it's set in Shanghai so it should probably be Shanghainese and Mandarin.

But considering the film was meant for the HK audience they were bound to use Cantonese.

Yes of course but I'd take (if we're talking legit releases) the MIHK video any day.

This interests me mostly because the HK DVD is so disatrious quality:

It has extra footage to as a bonus. Sure it's only Mandarin but I could live with it, if the DVD is better quality. I can live with the PQ on the HK DVD but the SQ is just dreadful with an awful 5.1 remix.
