I love most his films
they are just films I can sit back and relax to ussually, only a few of his samurai films dont exactly work perfect for me and for some reason they are the ones that get most Praise. Rashamon and Throne of Blood, both for me just dont work as much as his other stunning films like Seven Samurai etc..
they are not bad mind you, far from it, just a little odd in places.

Tom Yum Goong 4/5
The action and stunts in this film were mental, especially the amazing single take battle and when Jaa broke everyone's bones like 50 times. However I felt that as an overall film, it was weaker than Ong Bak. The humour didn't quite work and the structure was a little flimsy. Ong Bak I think flowed a little better. Still worth a watch like.

Shrek 2 - 4.5/5
I think I enjoyed this now even more than when I saw at the cinema - HILARIOUS!
There are loads of top scenes, I love the tribute to the Stay Puft scene from Ghostbusters, and the Mission Impossible one when Shrek tells Pinocchio to tell a lie that he's wearing ladies' underwear
If you've seen it you'll know what I mean
Jennifer Saunders is perfect as a scheming Fairy Godmother and Antonio Banderas steals the show as Puss - feline Zorro!
I liked the choice of music - including a very good cover of the Buzzcocks' punk classic Ever Fallen In Love
Be sure to watch the end credits - there's an extra scene in the middle, and also a hilarious Pop Idol spoof that plays after the film, with Simon Cowell as one of the judges

It's strange, but the only one from that list I really didn't care for much is Kagemusha. I know, I know. . . .
Some Kurosawa films I quite like that aren't on the list there are Sanjuro, Red Beard, Dersu Uzala, and Stray Dog. I really didn't care as much for Yojimbo, as Mifune's character isn't as involved in the action as Clint Eastwood is in the spaghetti western remake. I think the main character becomes far more interesting when he matures into the older, more wisened warrior of Sanjuro.

"Dersu Uzala" is a great film. I have the Korean 2 discer of the film which has the director's cut and the studio cut.
I have never seen "Stray Dog" before, but really wanna watch it ASAP. I have "Ikiru" on DVD and will watch it soon.
Guys, you should really check out "Drunken Angel". Not only is it a great film, but also his best non-samurai film I have seen from him so far.

Million Dollar Baby 3/5
It's a very well made, acted, movie but it didn't set my world on fire if you know what I mean. I would normally cry but didn't on this occasion.

Go see Straw Dogs, Cross of Iron and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia now. All are terrific. The Getaway is a great popcorn flick too, Steve McQueen just simply oozes coolness.thelostdragon wrote:
If you have followed this thread, you might have noticed, that I am currently checking out a few Sam Peckinpah films. T

Trautmann - Schwergewicht (german)
translated into English: Heavyweight
Trautmann is an Austrian series of movies about a detective working in Vienna. What is so special about these movies, is that the characters are all speaking Vienna´s dialect. Even for Austrian people it´s sometimes hard to understand everything of the dialoge.
I once saw such a Trautmann-movie in German television... they subtitled it... quite funny in my eyes.
Talking about "Heavyweight"... I liked it. As you can tell from the title it´s about a boxer. He´s got a lot of depts to pay... too many. He´s offered a lot of money if he loses his next fight. What options does the boxer have?
He agrees and takes tablets that will make him k.o. after 15mins... because of bad luck he dies of those tablets....
good movie, and good to see that there still are some movies produced in Austria

wheels on meals 4/5
first time i saw this movie, its actually quite fun, Biao and Jackie are a good fighting team, and Sammo is funny. the comedy was pretty great actually better than i expected. the only thing that was weird was that everyone is spain was speaking cantonese lol the dubbing looked awful on those people.
the final fight between jackie and the guy whom i forgot his name, was great although seriously i would have just grabed his braces pulled them as far as i could and let go....that would have been fun to see.
but yeah it was a really cool movie glad i bought it

Benny "the Jet" Urquidez is that one´s name. He´s a former multiple kickboxing world champion. You can also see him in "Dragons Forever" (again with Jackie, Yuen Biao and Sammo...).Shen wrote:...the final fight between jackie and the guy whom i forgot his name, was great
Lady Snowblood
What can I say? A shame that I hadn´t seen this masterpiece before.
Wonderful and beautiful pictures, as well as a great music and interesting storytelling...

Oldboy 4/5
this is one awesome movie, park chan is an awesome director and Choi min sik was great too. only some of the plot was a little too predictable like the fact that mido was his daughter pretty much guessed that from the first scene she was in. but it was really cool, the final scenes with Dae-Su and Woo-jin was really quite great.
would have been higher but the predictablitlty of some parts kinda spoiled it a bit being able to guess plots from the beginning.
