Anyone else fed-up of these marketing exercises... er, I mean, extended versions? They don't even give you the original cut as an option.

That would either mean seamless branching or a second disc as they're cash-ins they aren't going to spend much money on them.

As for being annoyed yes and no. I say No as ultimately it means more choice and that's a good thing.

Have you seen the cover for the Extended EOTS? What utter rubbish.

What if you want both versions?

You have to buy twice.

I'd hardly call that a good thing.

True but considering that these aren't Director's Cuts I'd guess it's unlikely most would want both.

For example there is some merit to owning both the theatrical and director's cuts of Blade Runner but these you'd want one or the other.

The Con Air cover is just as bad.

For me of the Con Air, Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State only Con Air I'd buy and then I'm not that bothered. It's no The Rock or Face/Off.

Not sure what makes you come to that conclusion...?

I'd like to see the ExC but I wouldn't want to give up the TC.

The new covers stink.

True but you're in the minority I'm guessing. I bet most will be happiest with the longer cuts and if they don't like the additions they'll get rid and pick up the Theatrical Cuts.

Like I said we're not talking Blade Runner or LOTR alterations here.

Maybe I am? Maybe for some longer always equals better? It's still an unecessary pain in the arse to have the choice taken away from me unless I choose to own TWO versions and pay Disney TWICE for the privilage.

Who cares if there's extended cuts available? It's not like the Disney R2/R4 releases of Crimson Tide, EOTS and Con Air TCs are going OOP - anamorphic transfers + DD5.1, what more could you ask for? I'd be keen on picking all 3 TCs of those flicks sometime, Tony Scott is a master of popcorn action movies and Con Air is loads of fun.

I'm lucky I waited with the purchase of these films, but they're too pricey, yet.

Not really.

The old DVD is already cheap and wait a while so will the extended DVD. Both together will be roughly what the extended DVD will be at launch.

Con Air? Con Shit more like. Complete waste of the talent involved. Almost everyone in that film is capable of doing more. A testament to how shit Simon West is in his job. Want further proof? Watch Tomb Raider, where he isn't surrounded by the same calibre of cast and crew.

Crimson Tide is decent enough though. Tony Scott knows how to crank up tension, and Gene Hackman is watchable in whatever he does. He made Enemy of The State bearable as well.

Why? It's true. I was merely pointing out it's not as bad as you think.

So has anyone bought CON AIR yet?

What are the differences and do they add to the film?

One review, it's virtually the same film:

Are you planning to go HD soon Romero? If so which camp? Me I'm waiting until a Dual Player comes or one format wins whichever comes first.

Con Air Extended sounds like just another marketing exercise. I'm in no hurry until I hear something more positive.

It's taken me time to build up my DVD collection so HD can fuck off. I'll wait until the next technological breakthrough in another 6 or 7 years.

That's exactly what it is.

:D

Those sorts of comments make me laugh as much as "why are you buying DVDs now HD is here". You're acting like you must upgrade tomorrow, there's no rush. You upgraded from VHS to DVD, there's no difference.

In 6-7 years time your DVD collection will be even bigger and harder therefore to change. You're also acting like you have to replaced every DVD title, what's wrong with a mix? Which is exactly what everyone getting into HD now will be doing for the foreseeable future.

Seven Samurai HD anyone? Yeah right. Will it even greatly improve such a film, who knows. It will be longer than 6-7 years before the next format comes around, these things take years to get replaced.

HD DVD (both formats) are niche markets now and they will be for the foreseeable future (maybe forever). There's no way they're going to replace DVD any time soon. Things just don't move that quickly, especially when you need a new TV this time.

HD-DVD is the new Laserdisc.

Only die-hard collectors with cash to throw around will bite the bait.

For the rest of us there's DVD for the forseeable future.

I'm not saying I'll never upgrade to another format just that I'm in no hurry.
