Michael Jackson's Music - Man his music rocks!

Post by bradavon »

There's no doubt in the last 10 years he's got weirder and weirder but as a musical talent he really can't be faulted.

I recently picked up "Bad". OMG it has some awesome songs on it. Michael wrote most of them and OMG they're so good. Yes Invincible was mostly rubbish (far to much synthesisers and electric keyboards) but prior to that his music is mostly flawless.

HIStory - Excellent collection of mostly great songs, the weepy "I love kids" ones get on my nerves a bit
Dangerous - Classic song after classic song
Bad - Like I said awesome
Thriller - Bloody fantastic
Off the Wall - I've not heard much of this one but considering it's age it's decent enough

Like Madonna he used to know exactly how to keep reinventing himself (crucial for a long musical career). Personally I'm looking forward to new wacko jacko material in 2007.

I thought he was working as an entertainment consultant in Bahrain? I highly doubt that his new stuff will sell well at all.

His last album was a massive flop and was in the under $10 bargain bin over here within 3 months.

His stuff from the 80's was fantastic and his stuff well into the mid-90's was very good (songs like "Stranger in Moscow", "Blood on the Dance Floor" and "Earth Song". ).

His extended "short film" music videos were always fun to watch and were directed by high profile filmmakers like Scorsese and John Landis.

Jackson has talent, but is vastly overrated. His vocals are mediocre, with too much screeching, and his attempts to sound hard by rasping and spitting out lyrics grate. There have been some good songs (Beat It, Billie Jean, Black or White, Earth Song - I know some think it's preachy, but it's potent): but enough to make him an all time great? I think not. Unlike Gary Glitter, Jackson hasn't been found guilty of anything but poor judgement and questionable taste. I don't think that should as yet reflect on his music catalogue.

 No, No, No you're all so wrong. He's a very good song writer and music composer, the hooks has has come up with, genius.

Thriller certainly isn't the best album ever made (personally I prefer Dangerous) but then no one has ever said it is.

Personally I think it's likely he is a paedophile but it's not proven and unless he gets arrested again I don't think we'll ever really know. I say for that reason alone we shouldn't judge him soley on these activities.

To put that in context if Gary Glitter's music was any good (luckily it's not) I really would have extreme trouble listening to it.

So do I unless he manages to come back with a stonking single. If he can do that like he did with HIStory then great. I'll probably pick it up regardless of who it much it sells.

I picked up Invincible but bar 1-2 songs it was rubbish.

Jackson blamed Sony on not plugging it probably. Mr Jackson you can't blame Sony for poor writing and poor songs.

Oh man those were great times. I have fond memories of when Michael was the King of Pop. The full Black and White cut was so clever. When MJ changes from a Panther into well MJ.

Genius? I don't think so. He wrote a few catchy tunes is all. Put it in perspective.

I think Jackson is psychologically deficient (probably with a mental age of about 10) and to be pitied as much as feared (I mean anyone who fucks up their face that badly to avoid looking like their Dad has serious fucking issues). No one really knows what happened behind closed doors and until evidence comes to light he should be left alone.

But it IS shite so that mercifully saves us a moral dilema... :D

Jackson was a top performer/dancer - since the age of about 11, and probably deserves the tag of performance genius. I also love the 80's stuff like Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, etc. I agree with you Mark about Earth Song, I found it stirring and moving. :)
Did Jackson have constant plastic surgery on his face?

Are you honestly asking that as a serious question? Or is it a quip? :|

I would just say 'talented' full stop. Although I admit nobody can grab their balls and screech the way he does. 8)

Serious question. Some say he has plastic surgery, some say he has a skin condition (vitaligo?) which causes his skin to go pale (thats why he's twice as white as me). I also thought the problems started after a stunt that went wrong a Pepsi ad in the 90's when his hair/face was burned.

Both. Vitaligo makes you go pale yes but not 100% of your body or at least I'm pretty sure it doesn't, it's patchy.

What I do know with 100% assurance is vitaligo doesn't make your hair straight like a white man from the black afro he used to have. It also doesn't change your facial bone structure from what he was born with to what we have today.

Bollocks he's had major plastic surgery but will only admit to two nose jobs.

edit: Some facts. Like As I thought you get pale patches -

Brad's already said about the white patches; Jackson is pure white all over. Well at least top half, I don't wanna know about anywhere else, thanks. Jackson lost his afro in the early 80's, around the same time he decided he wanted to look like Diana Ross. It takes MULTIPLE surgeries to look like Jackson does. He no longer wanted to be black. He got his wish.

He's had a couple of very good songs, and a shitload of hype and marketingpower behind him, so he became a 'legend'.

Dont get me wrong, he's a good singer and dancer, but certainly not brilliant or amazing. Just because some commercials say so, doesnt mean it's so.

i grew up listenign to michael jackson, although i dont like him as much as i used to (never listened ot anythign else from like 8-12 :D) he's still pretty talented, the main thing i liked about his music was the meaning behind it, it wasnt all the pop shite that was coming out about sex and looks and stuff it actually had some kind of meaning and depth to it, ok not all his songs but the majority i would guess, black or white, Human Nature, Beat it, They dont really care about us, Earth Song, Heal the world, to name but a few.

his newer work is nowhere near as good as his older works, he used to get on my nerves in the jackson 5, but as he came into his solo career he got much much better. invincible rather sucked, after all the years of "MJ is releasing an new album" it was a huge let down. like brad said too many syntehsizers, he seemed to be trying too hard to be "cool"

although i agree he's not the most awesomely talneted amazingly great heroic kind of legend singer, he is very talented, especially when you look around at the shite in the music industry today, even 20yr old music is better than them, peronsally i even like Bobby Darin, especially against most of todays music.

as for his personal life...who cares? its like anything remotley celebrity i dont give a fuck about their life, i mean sure peados like gary glitter, i wouldnt support his career even if he was a good singer. i kinda half followed the whole MJ story about this supposed kiddy fiddling, but it didnt ring true too much, hes just pretty naive and child like, IMO.

but even now i still go back to phases of listening to his songs, especially if im having a bad time. (although latley im more inclined to listen to heavy rock music lol)

Bobby Darin's 'Mack the Knife' is one of my all-time favourites songs.

I wondered where that Bo-Selecta dude got that from as I never remember hearing MJ say it but you know what he says it at least 3 times during the Bad album.

Just listening to the Thriller album. Class. Love Wanna Be Startin' Something. The Girl is Mine is also fantastic, if a bit cheesy. Especially the Michael/Paul voice-over near the end of the song....."I don't beleeeeeeve it!"
