Why? :? He's given us something we want, even if we've had to wait years for them.

Buy them (very possibly) = my choice
Not buy them = Your choice

Fair enough, anyway no-one is forcing you to buy them :D
If I need to answer that, you obviously have not heard a single word Lucas has spoke for the last 7 years.

Its got nothing to do with buying them, its the fact he stated 100% that there will NEVER be the origanal films ever on dvd. He said it so many times it hurt, now he changes his mind after he has flogged the dead horse versions, I call it a joke and Lucas is a moron and shows how much of a Liar he is, the greedy bastard he is. FDoesnt matter of people wanted it or not, he said it would never happen to sell more of the new editions and it worked.

The theatrical cuts are supposed to be in 2.0 as there was no 5.1 when they were made. I suppose it wouldn't have hurt to include 5.1 as an option though.

Wasn't there a six track master? It's been done before for old films such as Spartacus (if I remember correctly).
grim_tales wrote:Besides it says "2.0 Surround" not "Stereo" - better than nothing I guess...
In reality with a decent amp that makes little if any difference, well at least to me anyway.

The thing is being Limited I just know I'll kick myself if I don't get them and miss out but the most of the experience will be lost in paltry Stereo or even Surround

I still don't get why they're only being released individually?

Funnily no one did when the 2004 box set came out. They're a package I can't think of anyone who'd just want one of the films but not the other two.

Would those be the Neverland Sales?

It will long be OOP in 6 months silly

Actually, the 70mm screenings of Star Wars were in six-track stereo, a predecessor of 5.1

Quit whinging about there being no 5.1 on the original cuts, be greatful that you're getting them at all.

Yes, it was done for Spartacus. Other releases it was done for off the top of my head (six track stereo film mixed into a DD5.1 equivalent that replicates the original):- Warner's Wild Bunch SE and Ryan's Daughter SE. The DTS/DD5.1 remixes on Batman (89) SE are really just discrete versions of the original DD2.0 Surround track, as is the DD4.1/DTS track on Big Trouble in Little China and the DD4.0 track on Miller's Crossing.

Exactly what I said earlier in this thread. Nobody seems to be interested though. Nobody seems to feel betrayed by Lucas or whatever. I mean I bought the boxset, because of what Lucas said so many times. Back then, I thought of him as an asshole. Now I think of him as a lying asshole. It's as simple as that.

On the other hand, the press release says the DVDs will be sold at an attractive price. Well, I hope so, because I am not willing to buy them at the price at which the other episodes are available. I don't know about other countries, but Episode I is still being sold at the same price as it was when it was released.

I know we seem to be in the minority about the whole "we have been lied to" situation, everyone else is just like "well we got them who cares".

I care as someone with massive power has lied for so many years, blatantly and openly and nothing will be done agaisnt him, I really dont like lies. Just think how much more cash will be going to the Lucas empire, if he had been honest he would probibly still make all the cash mind you, but at least he would not have been so two faced about it.

Jeez Romero, why are you angry?
Lucas doesnt release them, and he's a greedy bastard. He releases them, and not only is he a greedy bastard, but a liar.

He says they're never coming out, and people call for his head. Later, he relents to fan pressure and people call for his head. Eh???

Sorry please explain? :? I mean isnt every filmmaker/DVD company in the business to make money? I'm not saying "greed is good" per se, but you speak of Lucas as if he is unique...

The thing is, he blatantly lied. Most studios stay quiet on prickly areas like this but he was very open about it. Remember the 1995 video releases where they said it was your last chance to see the originals - "Buy it today or lose it forever" was the slogan. The man's a fool and a liar - and sadly a rich one!

The boxset here in Holland, with the first 3 movies (the original trilogy) is 30 euro. It was released twice here. One with lousy coverart but a 4th bonusdisc, and then a 2nd time (more recently) only now with gorgeous coverart (on the box), yet no bonusdisc.

I've only seen 2 star wars movies in my life, and that was when i was a kid...
I might check them out again some day, although Sci-fi isnt really a favourite genre of mine. It COULD be a favourite genre, if they approached it differently (Lanfeust of the Stars is a good example of how I'd LIKE it to be: Lanfeust is a french graphic novel btw)

Ah well, the important thing is that a company has listened to the fanbase and will release the version that the fans have been asking/begging for.

George Lucas is only human, I'm sure most of you have said things you will never do, but then changed your mind sometime later. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it is possible.

It would be worse if he said (in 1995) the originals wouldnt be deleted and then he changes his mind (now) and deletes them. In this case, surely changing his mind and releasing them is a good thing?! :D
fair enough Gasteropod.

Recently, South park has been showing again on Dutch TV, and I love all Cartman's stuff, especially how he keeps confronting Kyle about the Jews, and how they are bad and killed Jesus and all that :D Talking about mel Gibson as his idol, since he made The Passion, which has shown everyone 'the truth' about 'the Jews' :D

A lot of the big producers in Hollywood are Jewish, doesnt make them any lesser or better, its just the way it is I guess :) Most people dont even know about most of them as a lot of them dont seem to force it down peoples thoats like the more extreme religious types. I cannot imagine seeing Spielberg and Lucas wearing little caps on their heads and I have never seen images of them like that in the public domain. Guess they keep it under their hats so to say, more than some other famous people who force feed it to us at every opertunity.
