I thought this was superb and appreciated it more once I reached puberty (and greater intelligence I think).

Before it was the twist that I found amazing.

Later, I was most impressed by the anti-cosumerism/commercialism messages. Also noticed the stylishness a lot more.

So yeah, not sure if I can label it as a masterpiece... but it's pretty damn close. Actually yeah, for the sake of arguement... let's assume everyone thinks it's a masterpiece.

Fight Club = Crap.
Yep, that's right. I hate the films you love. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I voted for modern-day masterpiece, as it's smart, very well-made, good acting involved by all, it's original, etc etc...

So yeah, it's a very good movie, but it's not a favourite of mine. I didnt enjoy watching it much. It didnt blow me away or anything, and the characters, although well written, didnt really 'connect' with me personally.

I'd vote for: "Fight Club: Modern Classic" but I went for: "Fight Club is neither", as it's not a masterpiece.

OT: But there's a Bollywood film called Fight Club as well. Not sure if it's a remake or what... (doesn't look like a ripoff aside from the name).

Modern classic my ass. It can't be a classic if it's modern. That's just like Disney stamping every PoS flick they publish as a Disney Classic. I can understand 50, 40, heck even 10, 20 year old flicks. But 2 months after theatrical release it's a Disney Classic?! Hell no. :D

Anyways. Fight Club: GREAT FLICK (though I'm so tired of Norton) - which will probably go down as a classic one day ;)
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

The film is bordering 7 years old - why cant it be a modern classic? :?
Can the likes of The Terminator be modern classics? IMO they certainly can.
I agree with you about what Disney does though when they call Lady and the Tramp 2/Little Mermaid 2/Jungle Book 2 etc a "classic" LMAO :D

I don't see why it can't be a modern classic... it certainly has enough support to warrant that status...

Gojensen, you implying that your ass is a modern classic?

In the negative. I found the film to be shallow and pointless.

Why does there have to be a point? a lot of films dont have anything to say at all.

Yeah, but those are usually the sort of films you watch. Fight Club is regarded as some sort of modern masterpiece, and I've no idea why? What's it all about? The film rants a lot and blinds the viewer with "ideas" but ultimately says nothing.

I saw Fight Club as a commentary on mass-consumerism and how it has a collosal influence on modern lifestyle. The story took a hypothetical situation, where someone departs from this commericial-slavery to enjoy the bare pleasures at a neanderthal level. The converse effect is that this sudden lack of order resulted in anarchy and ironically, circled back to the "slave" way of thinking (where these brainwashed guys only did things because Tyler told them to). Add a few witty scenarios, remarkably clever twist and you have a "modern classic" (according to its large fanbase anyway).
