"House of Flying Daggers" Cut in the US and UK!

Post by bradavon »

Okay so my source is Monkey Peaches but it looks legit.

Read the article it points to and then start scrolling up. The link includes a video click here.

It looks like the cuts on the US print were to obtain a PG-13 rating and because the US test audience didn't like one of the scenes near the end. I agree it was silly but still worked (I'd hate to lose it). It is cut by at least 10 seconds (Monkey Peaches haven't added up the complete missing running time).

The UK print fairs better and misses 18 seconds which were because the film shows horses being hurt. The UK release is rated 15 but as we all know animal cruelty is a big no no.

With thanks to Sword over at the Madman Forums for bringing it to my attention.

It looks unlikely now an uncut version with English subtitled extras will be coming any time soon :o :( . Sword also said about the new Edko 2 Disc LE, which I didn't know:

The edko 2 disk edition, limited edition is better than the first release in terms of the transfer.

Has anyone picked up this LE or the Korean DVD?

The Korean DVD was scheduled for late December but has now vanished from DVDAsian.com and isn't listed on KoreanDVDs.com, weird. I think I'll wait for the eventual Korean DVD before upgrading now. I was looking forward to a decent version with English subtitled extras :o :( .

EDIT: Chris Porto over at Asian DVD Time confirms the 2 Disc DVD has been remastered with a nice comparison review here. It contains lots of screen captures. I'm undecided whether to upgrade now or wait, it is supposed to be a LE!

lol yea as with Azumi...

...chances are you may need to double dip to get the best enjoyment.

Buy one DVD for full uncutness, another DVD for subbed extras...

If a decent DVD comes with English subtitled extras I'll upgrade again. The HK DVDs are cheap so it doesn't bother me, doing this.

Apparently, Starmax will be releasing a good looking dvd on the 18th. I'll probably just end up getting that, as i have been very happy with most Korean dvd's i've gotten.

I'm not getting the LE in the sense you mean it. I'm getting the 2 disc standard LE (it doesn't come with the fancy stuff).

How confusing :D

I read that to but the same comments said they had problems with the Hero HK DVD I didn't.

I'll wait to see how my copy is. Thanks though.

I paid £8 for the standard 2 disc release, unless they're under £15 I'm not interested in LE's partially because none of them are in English so the book maybe gorgeous but it is useless to me. Of course most are much more expensive too.

I take it you have the LE Romero? What is the AV like in your fussy opinion :D .

I thought you were going to wait for the Japanese or Korean releases? Which btw I can't see the Korean release beating this cheap HK re-release.

I was but the Japanese release has NO SUBS!!!!!!GRRRRR and the Korean release i dont expect much from, as they rarley are the best of any region, so I thought may as well get all the beautifll syuff in the L.E. it was worth the gamble as its very nice, the book is very nice and worth over a tenner easy, and the cd is nice too :) and then theres the other bits and bobs, well worth my 22 quid thats for sure :) a bargain in fact.

the pictures definalty an improvment, havent watched it all yet, but it seemed far, far, far superior to that awful old dvd I had :)

Yes Korean dvds of Korean films are ussually great, Korean versions of other countries films dont seem to be that great :) there always seems to be better editions about of non korean films if that makes sense. :D
