I just copied this from the PESinsight forums, but I thought it deserves some attention and I know a couple of you would also sign it...TEAM SABOTAGED BY ISRAEL
On March 30th, 2006 Israel bombed the Palestine National Football Stadium in
Gaza Strip. FIFA has demanded an explanation for the bombing, and this week is considering disciplinary measures against Israel. It is essential that at this critical moment, the people of the world make our voices heard. Palestine has a right to national representation in International Sports.
Please follow the link below and sign the petition to FIFA asking them to suspend Israeli membership until Israel stops obstructing Palestine's right to national identity and participation.

Those were exactly my thoughts, and I also mentioned it when I signed the petition...thelostdragon wrote:Yeah, that was all over the news here. As if it was the first time Israel did such a thing. Now where are the allies that see it as their duty to free countries? Guess not those they have created, though.
Petition signed.
I remember a few years ago the Palestinian swimmer had to practice his swimming in a bombed building which had a swimmingpool in it, and they mentioned no-one could know about the swimming pool or else the Israelis would certainly bomb it...
I very very often scratch my head when I see and hear and read what Israel is getting away with... I cant believe 'the west' is tolerating their crimes against the palestinian people...
But hey, same thing goes for Russia and their treatment of Chechnya (SP?) I guess...
Ah well... what can you do about it? All our democracy and elected leaders seem to be lapdogs for the USA and Israel... and most of them are very prejudiced against islamic nations.
There is so goddamn much injustice in the world... and there isnt a real leader that stands up and says: stop it.
I really dont get it. Why dont the people in power use their power to make things better?

As much as it pains me to say it, but they can get away from going such stuff. I remember when Cherie Blair said about suicide bomber and how 'she' thinks that in their 'own' mind that this is the only thing to do. The uproar from that..I very very often scratch my head when I see and hear and read what Israel is getting away with... I cant believe 'the west' is tolerating their crimes against the palestinian people...
Suicide bombing is not confirmed to Palestine. I believe It was used by Algerian against the occupying French in the 1950s

...I'm sure there were' suicide bombers' even before that. Just think of the kamikaza-pilots from japan who were just flying suicide bombers...slasher13 wrote:As much as it pains me to say it, but they can get away from going such stuff. Japan has a long history of warriors sacrificing their lifes for the 'greater good'.
And I agree with Cherie Blair that in the terrorist's mind his actions are justified. Hell, I'm not a terrorist but even I can understand why they would do such a thing. I dont agree with it, but I can understand it from their point of view (here we go, getting into this discussion again...

No, and I'm kicking myself for it, because I saw it advertised.
On 'sport being a substitute to war', I don't think it's carved in stone anywhere; I just think it's one of the functions of sport, aside of fitness etc. Everybody likes to compete, certainly at national level. Sport is just a civil means of competing with others.

I haven't read the responses to this thread, I'm just writing how I feel about the Israel-Palestine situation.
Honestly, they both have equal claim to the land. The Jews may've been there first, then when they were driven off to other parts of the world (eg Europe), but the Palestians had been there for 1000+ years by the time the Jews wanted to reform the nation of Israel after WW2. "My people began here." "But people have lived here for many many many generations."
LD, how's the social climate in Palestine since Hamas was voted in?
