La Haine: 3-Disc Ultimate Limited Edition Tin - 05/06/2006

Post by bradavon »

Disc 1: Main Feature

* Digitally re-mastered
* Anamorphic Widescreen
* French DD5.1 Surround with English subtitles
* Audio commentary from Mathieu Kassovitz
* Scenes in Colour
* Behind the Scenes footage
* Trailers

NEW to this release:

Disc 2: ”10 Years of La Haine” feature-length documentary (119mins)

Disc 3: Original Soundtrack CD

Booklet

* ‘After the Riot’ an essay on La Haine by Keith Reader
* Excerpts from Mathieu Kassovitz’s 'The 2005 Paris Riots' featuring an entry from French Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy

Packaging

* Limited edition (15,000) steel books, each featuring an individually numbered sticker

My god I never knew this film was that good. Especially to warrant 3 releases. I'd prefer a 2 disc release without the CD, soundtracks rarely work outside the film.

I have the French SE and still haven't watched it. Good job I didn't pick up the UK SE.

It looks like the Tin is limited the SE isn't!

* Source + Check out the lovely tin: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=61153

I'd say yes. How are they going to possibly top this? That said it's going to be expensive.

You could wait for the non-tin version assuming that is actually coming.

I might get that, been wanting to see that film for a while now. It'll prolly be around 14 pounds (is there a pound sign on your pommy keyboards?) online, so about $40NZD.

So is the commentary in English? There's no listing of a player-generated sub stream on DVDcompare for it and the film's subs are burnt-in (with a rather large font apparently). I can with live burnt-in subs, it's not like I'm going to learn French anytime soon.

Brad, you said you wanted to learn Spanish? I strongly recommend that you start ASAP. The longer time goes, the longer you procrastinate.

Vincent Cassel sure is one ugly motherfucker (Predator reference BTW), how he scored Monica Belucci we'll never know. I can't think of single French male star who isn't an ugly fucker - Vincent Cassel, Jean Reno, Gerard Depardieu , Jean Auteuil.

Excellent, loved this movie, its also eerie similar to whats happened in with the riots recently in France. The booklet that bradavon quoted the source on, has this as well.

I have the current Optimum release, so might want to wait for the reviews and see if i shall upgrade

Good question. I wouldn't say either are ugly

I know scary.

I'm sure it will be more than 14 notes, it's an LE Tin.

LOL yep + $ and €. The € came later you need to press a few key combinations to get it. I'm guessing on Mainland keyboards it's simpler?

If you press the LEFT (NOT right) ALT key and while it's pressed type 156 using the RIGHT (NOT left) numbers you will get a pound sign. 157 is the Japanese Yen but oddly doesn't work for me.

True but right now I have more important things to do such as work based training for my career. I usually do everything I say I will. I went travelling 4 years ago on my own, no one thought I would.

I'm not going anywhere yes I'd like to learn Spanish but also think until I'm closer to considering moving there (Spain, which I'm considering) it's a moot point in a way. I'll get there in my own time.
EvaUnit02 wrote:Vincent Cassel sure one ugly motherfucker, how he scored Monica Belucci we'll never know.
He's not only scored he's married to her. Personally I think he's handsome and charismatic too.
EvaUnit02 wrote:So is the commentary in English?
Yes the director speaks decent English. Check out the DVD Times SE review.

I don't mind burnt in subs too, as long as they're well made and readable. For French, Spanish and the like I "prefer" removable subs but Asian languages I really don't mind.

Yeah, I know about ALT number combinations, I just can't be arsed using them.
Pointless resource, seeing as Character Map is built into Windows and lists all the ALT number combos. Just use the run command on charmap if it's not in your accessories menu.

By "scored" I was refering to them being married, otherwise I would've used "scored with". I also consider Quentin Tarrantino to be fucking ugly, do you think he's handsome too.

I'm with Bradavon and LostDragon on this, I don't think Vincent Cassel or Jean Reno are ugly at all. I think they are both pretty cool. I like Vincent Cassel in Derailed and Ocean Twelves, the latter he was pretty elegant when you are first introduced to him.
Also Jean Reno is a cool guy, he is excellent to watch in Leon and also Ronin. I would put him on the same level as Robert De Niro, if you watch Ronin, then to me, they are both similar.

Vincent Cassel is hardly ugly (from what I've seen in films like Crimson Rivers).

They ain't 'ugly' ugly, but they aren't 'Johnny Depp Hot' either.

If Jean reno wasnt a charismatic actor but the groceryguy on the corner, nobody would consider him 'handsome. They'd call him 'droopy' or something. But he's a very good actor, played cool roles, and has a good, low voice, so we 'mistake' that for being 'handsome'. It's like those ridiculous boy-band boys, who all look like complete nancies with makeup and big hair and dumb-ass clothes, yet the girls all seem to think they are both 'cool' as well as 'sensitive'. Yet there is nothing 'cool' about a guy sitting 2 hours in make-up with his own hairstylist, and there's nothing 'sensitive' about banging 15 year old groupies every night...

Yet because they sings some sappy lovesongs and move in slowmo in their heavily stylised videoclips, all the girls have this fake image of them in their heads.

Same with Vincent Cassell. Good charismatic actor who played cool roles, but if he was just some idiot in your class, no-one would call him 'hot' or whatever.

Pretty much everyone of us, IF put in the right kind of role and/or movie, could be the next sex-symbol. I could play a young rooky cop, an become a teen-idol, or I could keep the exact same looks, play a dumb-ass aggresive racist who slaps women in the face and is a coward, and people would call me ugly and spit on me in the streets. It's cause they associate a certain role/persona, with your looks.

Fair enough.

Fat lot of good when programming that is. I've not got Character Map installed seeing as I never ever use it.

Nah he's ugly and married to Sophia Copola or was I think???

I disagree being an actor doesn't make you charismatic and yep he'd still be handsome.

Bet the "Ugly" pair of actors in Crimson Rivers must have been picked to make us lot feel beter :D I think they are nice looking guys in a non gay way, they both have pretty distinct voices too and that will charm the ladies.

I havent seen La Haine for a long time, and want it on dvd, so this may be the best version :) no need to buy it soon mind you, as it will be in sales very quick I am sure for a lot less :)

I never said they were hot or extremely good-looking. Looking plain normal is totally different from ugly, though.

Christ no. Polynesians (include Maoris, Hawaiians, Samoans, Tongans, etc) sure are ugly motherfuckers - the ugliest race on Earth IMO.

I've got a very mixed descent. I've got at least Scotish, Dutch, Portuguese, Indian, Sri Lankan in me.

Nah that would be Australian Aborigine's. This is going to sound awful but they really look like gorillas, the odd one I saw was hot but not many that's for sure.

I thought the Maori's were pretty good looking people, very interesting face. It's interesting how you separate yourself from your fellow countrymen.

I'm not sure you can say all Polynesians look the same, not all Europeans look the same (as in indigineuous Europeans). The Scandinavians and Brits for example are much whiter than other Europeans. Hmm don't know.

Are we unique or is it more natural on the continent/your country to say a guy is good looking without someone thinking you gay? Over hear I get really odd looks if I say a guy is good looking. Still Romero had to add in "not in a gay way" as if we think he might be gay??? :)

Be careful if you want it, it's limited to 15,000 copies.

I'm guessing it will become a standard SE without the Tin but that's hard to say.

Dude Eva, what is it with you and other people looking ugly. Especially judging whole races.

I entered Google and searched for "Polynesian" images and got what I would hardly call ugly.

Agreed. Those people are hardly ugly IMO - all races have plain/ugly and "beautiful" people.
Brad remember Romero's accent is "gay with a hint of manly deepness" :)

Oh yeah, you're correct. Abo's are the ugliest of all ugly motherfuckers.

When did I say that they all looked the same? Eg The physical characteristics of Maoris, Tongans, Samoans are quite different.

There's always exceptions though, eg hybrid actress Jaime Passier-Armstrong.

Who cares? I'm secure enough with my sexuality to judge whether a man is handsome or not without having to safeguard myself against accusations by dropping "no homo" (rap slang equating to what Romero said), in order to comfort a sensitive homophobic mindset. Are you Brad?
