Sawyer is an awesome character. I love his one-liners. He actually calls Sayid "Captain Falafel". I couldn't help myself and bursted out laughing. LOL! It's great how they were able to make me like a character who is kinda anti-Arab.

The names that Sawyer comes up with for people are delivered in a very off-the-cuff style and that's the secret I believe. He calls Kate 'pudding' at one point, and because it was delivered well and fit my impression of the character at that stage, it worked, and I fell about laughing :-)

Taking this thread back a page a moment, has anyone got/seen Is It Bill Bailey? This was a 6 episode series he did for the BBC many moons ago, which featured a mix of skits and sketches and some stand-up. I've been watching him for ages, ever since I saw him mix comedy with his rather impressive musical talents. It was only shown once on BBC2, and I recorded it onto VHS (as I knew what I'd be getting), but the tape has worn down a great deal after many viewings.
Highlights of his show include an illustration of how Cockney music influenced the great composers and the truth behind Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. It also has Simon Pegg as a regular in the show, in a pre-Spaced and Shaun Of The Dead showcase.

If you want to see more of him, you can see Never Mind The Buzzcocks on the BBC's web site where, impressively, they play the last show shown on TV in full as a streaming download. Less impressive is the fact that you have only a choice between Realplayer and Media Player to view it in. Why doesn't everybody work in QuickTime?

I'm not sure if you'd be able to watch it in countries other than Britain, as the BBC may have put a block on it, what with the TV Licence fee that we in the UK have to pay.

A few months ago, Bill was petitioning the BBC to release Is it Bill Bailey? on DVD. Not sure what the latest is on that, if anything came of it. Best place to check would be his website: www.bill-bailey.co.uk

His webbadgers are quite helpful and usually respond to email inquiries within a week or so.

I'll have to look into the BBC website to see if I'm able to view Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Thanks for the tip. :thumbup:

Kurgan did you see Bill Bailey's appearence on Room 101 a couple of years back? He said there was only 1 way to make Lady In Red by Chris De Burgh bearable, and goes on to play it in a cockney/Chas and Dave style

Also in Lost, Sawyer calls Kate "pudding" a lot rather than just once I'm sure, he also calls her "freckles".

The Muppet Show - S1 (Episode 1-6).. 3.5/5

Quite enjoyed this, though the show seems to lack polish (to be fair the show was finding its feet in the first season). Strange the clip I most remembered was the famous "Manah Manah" sketch, which is actually one of the first skits in Episode 1.

I'm sure the Manah Manah guy turned up on Sesame Street a couple of times

And in fact the song was played on Sesame Street before being associated with The Muppet Show

Some of the other songs are pretty inspired too.

one of my all time favourite movies, ic an even stand brad pitt in this. the character spacey plays is really great. i like calm actors who play psychos, like anthony hopkins and spacey etc. aand of course morgan freeman just is awesome in pretty much all his films this one included.

Watched most of the first night of this, but won't be bothering to watch the second night. REALLY not necessary. Dougray Scott just doesn't come across right as Moses. It just doesn't work! Moses with a Scottish accent.

Last night ended with the parting of the Red Sea, which was somewhat cool, I must admit. Still, I don't know what the purpose of remaking this was, when even special effects can't make this Ten Commandments any grander than the one made during Hollywood's golden era. This version just seems so . . . so ordinary, in comparison.

Was funny, having the Egyptians, played by Naveen Andrews and Dougray Scott, speaking with Scottish and British accents, while the Hebrews had American accents.

That is true. The yank audiences got all pissy over all the dudes with British accents in Alien 3 and Australian/British/etc films have been redubbed into "American" in the past (eg Mad Max). I've seen Yanks often complain about not understanding Aussie/Brit/etc accents, I can understand them perfectly fine, I don't see what the problem is.

Plus the accents spoken back then would've long disappeared into the ether.

On a related note, I find the Brooklyn/New Yorker accent really fucking annoying, unless it's coming from a dude in a mafia film/show.

I don't think so, the R2 is the same as the US R1, so some episodes are edited. I didn't notice that though TBH.
For what its worth I watched Mad Max with subtitles too as I couldnt understand some of the Ozzy terms

The Warriors - 4.5/5

Great movie, really loved this. I have never seen this movie before and didn't seen the original cut. But this cut is really good. Love the comic book styles to it. Love the direction by Walter Hill, I think that David Patrick Kelly really steals this movie, love the "Warriors, come out to play-i-ay. ". The music score is very good, reminds me of John Carpetner movies. It a pity there is no commentaries on the dvd, but the extras are very good.

I found the series mediocre to begin with, and mentioned that Dougray Scott didn't work as Moses. AS AN ASIDE, I thought it was funny that a Prince of Egypt spoke with a Scottish accent. Why was it funny? Because his Egyptian brother, with whom he was raised, has a British/London accent. His Egyptian mother sounds like a stoned Northern Cali girl, and his blood brother, who was raised in the same city, just a few yards away from the palace, sounds like he just flew down to the Nile from Los Angeles. So yes, I do find it funny that there's such a variety of accents in this version.

I found your comment that "Americans get all confused when people speak with funny foreign accents" off topic of reviewing what we've seen, and a cheap, easy shot at making fun of Americans. It did nothing but serve as an invitation to let other folks join in and agree with how stupid Americans are.

I agree it seems silly to have a variety of accents, none of them accurate.

So would it be OK if EVERYONE spoke with a Scottish accent?

Sure, why not. But lovely Dougray Scott still makes a lousy Moses. Although he would have been just fine as the new James Bond, imho.
