According to Matichon.co.th, Tony Jaa will actually by the director and the leading actor of Ong-Bak 2! The shooting has been advanced to June 2006. "However, Panna Rittikrai and Prachya Pinkaew still take a good care of this new diretor. Being too slow for this project is not good, therefore they might start filming Ong-Bak 2 in June."
The rights of Ong-Bak 2 were brought by The Weintsein compagny last week :
The Weinstein Co. has bought world rights, excluding Asia and the U.K., to "Ong bak 2," the sequel to 2003's Tony Jaa-starring Thai boxing hit "Ong bak." Deal was struck with sales arm Sahamongkolfilm Intl. on Friday, just after the wrapwrap of Hong Kong's FilMart, and continues TWC's relationship with Jaa. Last year TWC bought rights to his "Tom yum goong" for the U.S., Scandinavia, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand.
Thai distributor Sahamongkolfilm Intl. will handle licensing for "Ong bak 2" in remaining territories.
Jaa plays a young man on a journey that teaches him the skills and inner meaning of martial arts.
WTF??? How can you possibly say Premier Asia is a worse company to what the Weintsein's have done and continue to do to Asian fims???
Ong-bak R1 is a mess in comparison to the UK R2.
Personally I don't really care the first was hardly stella. I'll check out TYG but if it's not much better I won't be bothering anymore.
Fingers crossed Momentum or Optimum Asia pick it up. Except for their use of NTSC to PAL (which shouldn't be an issue here) they've been very good lately. Uncut, anamorphic, 5.1, some extras.
Actually I don't think Momentum Asia have used NTSC to PAL just Optimum Asia.
Contender Group releases are still superb in the picture and audio department, so there won't be any problem unless they release the cut version. I highly doubt that the score will be changed either, since Mike White doesn't work there anymore.
