hey,
Yep. Who's Vincent Zhao ? Is it Chiu Man-Cheuk or Hung Yan-Yan ?
Referring to Chiu Man-Cheuk or in Mandarin, Zhao Wen-Zhou (Hung Yan- Yan is Xiong Xin-Xin is Mandarin....very easy ;)).

The extended Korean dvd is still very preferrable (and very OOP?) for the feature only since it has optional English subs. The original HK cinema subs present on the HK dvd are of the microscopic kind.

Is the Chiu Man-cheuk scene in the HK disc's version?

I'm a fan of this guy ever since I first saw "Once Upon a Time in China 4". It was only later that I recognised that he was the bad guy in "Fong Sai-yuk". I tried to write a portrait of him. You guys might find it interesting to read:

Salaam LD, Good read man, really liked it. Also liked Lam Ching Ying portrait as well. You should do Yasuaki Kurata portrait as well. I'm a big fan of him, ever since i saw him in Legend of a Fighter. He was absolutely brilliant in this, and you really felt for him at the end.

Aleik As-Salaam, Salsher!

Thanks for the comments. Glad you liked them. Yasuaki Kurata rocks. I love the character he played in "Legend of a Fighter". I've also written a review/article about the film. If you're interested:

About The Chinese Feast:
http://adg.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=8

Apparently the french transfer doesn't come from the same negative as the japanese or korean dvds.
It does however contain both cuts of the film.

No, Widesight's dvd doesn't contain this. Was first seen on Mercury's dvd in Malysia and then subsequently the dvd versions in Japan, Korea and now France.

hey,

I'll pick this up for extras but my Korean dvd will be the watch for the feature. This French dvd Director's cut seems largely redundant as it offers up nothing new in terms of footage. If you desperately want the Zhao fight scene out, there's always widesight (believe me, you don't want that) and the option for this new "Director's cut.

And from reading that excellent breakdown, this fight scene is both in the international version on the french dvd AND as an extra. Pointless. Other than that, seems like a fine release.

Le Servante and Le Samourai is the French title? The English one sounds cooler, but this French one is probably more suitable, cuz Yamada's films sound more like "arthouse dramas" by the descriptions (haven't seen any, will pick up the R4 of Twilight Samurai eventually).

La Servante and Le Samourai is the French title ?
Yep.
"Hidden Sword Devil's Nail" seems to be the real original title.

Ah, I can see why they didn't use the literal translation for either English or French titles - sounds like an old school kung fu picture title that would sound really cheesy to the mainstream consumer.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have just completed a script for Terra-Cotta Warrior.

I used the Chinese DVD as source and adjusted timings as necessary.

Some of the dialog in the film doesn't have even Chinese translations, see
01:32:02,428, and I'm going to include a Readme.txt file in the script file that mentions where these lapses are. Also, there's a song in the movie (37.01 to 38.28) which has Chinese subs but not English. If anyone can add the translation to my file, I'f be very happy. Also, at the end of the movie there is some Japanese spoken.

Most of it has been translated on my Swedish VHS so I used it with the DVD but on the Chinese DVD only one single line is translated from the Japanese. At the end, the song from earlier is shown with Chinese subtitles.

I have made a loose estimation of what the Japanese dialog is and added it to my script. I will provide 2 versions of the script.

One that is my full Edit and one that has most of the superfluous dialog which is shown on the print but has no dialog to go with it.

I will use Koofy's site to upload the subs. If you want to add something, please mail me and we can make sure there aren't too many versions of the same script out there.

The "lost" dialog might be translated by HK Video but still... If someone can read Chinese and has the DVD, please try to translate the song lyrics.

The script is called QinYong-TerracottaWarrior-1989-English.rar and has now been posted at kloofy.net.
Thanks.
ericf

hey,

very cool, eric and I'll be looking at the Hk Video subs to see if they've done us the favour of filling in the song translation and missing dialogue, unless you beat me to it. ;)

Weekly HK Vidéo DVD overview:

A Chinese Odyssey (Hong-Kong - 1995 - From Jeff Lau with Stephen Chow)

Image

http://rapidshare.de/files/16475629/ACh ... y.rar.html
The music used in this trailer comes from the Green Snake OST.

A Chinese Odyssey was released on DVD in France in 2003 under its french title "Le Roi-Singe" (the Monkey King).
-Both movies are included in one digipack.
-Picture quality is on par with the Megastar disc.
-It contains the original cantonese mono track.
-Subtitles are way more accurate than on the Megastar disc.
-It contains a long interview with Stephen Chow.

Next weekly update: next sunday.

Are A Chinese Oddessey (1995) and Chinese Oddessey (2002) related? :)

I'll pick CO 2002 one day :)

A Chinese Odyssey 2002 is somewhat related to the first, but it's not a sequel.
Athena Chu plays the same role (schizophrenic immortal Zixia) in both movies.

These 4 movies belong together IMO:
-Ashes of Time.
-A Chinese Odyssey.
-A Chinese Odyssey 2002.
-A Chinese Tall Story.
Oddessey

Are you sure you're spelling it correctly ? :?

No I'm not :D

As you say its spelt like this:

Odyssey :D

I heard there was a UK DVD of CO 2002, maybe I'll get that rather than the HK DVD.

Thanks, Knetan.
I'm not sure I will get the DVD early since I wanted to order both Terracotta Warrior and The Blade at the same time. I have used mediadis.com before but I'm not sure they will have this for sale. I'm also looking to get Burning Paradise from them. It comes with Blade of Fury, which I haven't seen.
Is it any good?

hey,

Blade Of Fury is a good movie largely spoiled by some completely insane camera speeds during the fight action. Cartoon madness and since the atmosphere is otherwise pretty much dead serious....ay ay ay.

I've always liked Blade of Fury. Kinda like the OUATIC movies, only more realistic and less funny.
