I have the very nice R1 3-disc deluxe edition so it will have to be a huge amount of extra footage for me to upgrade.
I don't think 10 minutes warrents it.

I'm definitely not picking up this.

I still have my two disc region 2 as well as my lovely Korean Superbit deluxe four-disc version :D

..and I bet Ridley Scott's preferred version is still the original 2001 theatrical cut.

I'm sick of this BS regarding extended cuts of Ridley Scott films (not counting the 190min cut of Kingdom of Heaven, which IS Ridley's full Director's Cut - I look forward to owning that. Plus the Blade Runner and Legend DC's of course.). The Gladiator Extended Edition and Alien 2003 alternative cut (deceptively marketed as a "DC", when Ridley's preferred is still the 1979 TC) were pointless money making exercises, this is obviously one too.

What's worse, even when one of these "Extended Editions" is the actual Director's preferred version we are left in the dark (i.e. Casualties of War EE was supervised by DePalma and restores his original vision.), bloody thick marketing tossers.

I'm betting also the 10 minutes are some/all of the deleted scenes.

The SB Deluxe is so gorgeous there's no way 10 minutes could improve on it. I'll check out the reviews when they come though. It better have DTS this time (i.e - on the Western DVDs).

EDIT: More info here -

It's actually 8 minutes and only has one extra: “PBS Presents: “Frontline: Ambush in Mogadishu” with Interactive Mission Map/Timeline”

That decides it for me Gladiator: EE I'm still not 100% sure on but this no way!

Yes this is a cash-in, now that's out the way.

Did anyone pick this up? Is the Extended Cut worth seeing? Cash-in or not does it improve the film?

I felt overall the Extended Gladiator Cut was a better film but only minutely as both cuts work perfectly fine, that said some of the new footage hurt the film but that was 17 minutes this is only 8 minutes.

The one thing that bothered me about the Gladiator EE is that they dropped the DTS track. Not sure about the other regions but that's what happened in R1.
I won't get this though, I'm happy with the 3-disc edition. I can't imagine what else would be added to the movie.

Yes unfortunately every Gladiator DVD dropped DTS.

The R1 is the best mind you as it at least has both cuts. I now own :D -

1. Original UK R2 - 2 Disc SE (with DTS)
2. Extended UK R2 - 3 Disc SE (No TC)
3. Extended R1 - 3 Disc SE (Both Cuts)

It bugged me the UK R2 doesn't have both cuts. As the R1 is UBER expensive I picked up a second hand copy from eBay.co.uk. The packaging etc . . . is fine. I'm going to trade my other two DVDs.

Agreed but then Gladiator: EE is overall the better cut but then that was at least Director supervised. This certainly is not.
