The Big-Ass OFFICIAL BNB Cartoon Thread!

Post by Yi-Long »

Started a main thread where we can discuss all kinds of cartoons, past & present, short & long, etc etc.

Ok... just been browsing around a bit, and found out there are plans to start a new series of one of the best cartoon-series of all time, [/b]Alfred J. Kwak! [/b]

Personally, I'd LOVE to see that happening, as I felt the original series was amazing. Character design was great and it dealt with serious topics (apartheid, whalehunting, 2nd world war/racism, etc etc) in a entertaining way.
Has anyone here seen the show? LD: You must have seen it at some point in your life? It was pretty big in Germany as well, I believe!? What did you think of it?

Anyway, the show is about to get a DVD release in Germany and Holland this year, so hopefully that will be good...

What are all you guys favourite cartoons? So damn many good series still havent been released on DVD yet. I'd love to see the old Wizard of Oz cartoons on DVD, as well as the anime series of Peter Pan.

I'd like to see Samurai Pizza Cats with the crazy English dub released.

Also season boxsets of the '90's X-Men and Spider-Man series, as well as X-Men Evolution.

Owyeah, Samurai Pizza cats was akways very funny. I'd also like to see it subbed, cause I'm sure the japanese version would be great as well...

Also, Macron 1 was a show that used to be on saturday mornings on Superchannel, which was awesome.
Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Macron 1 Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Macron 1! :D

That had the story arc where there was rogue princess who was trying to relinquish the thrown of her steam-punk kingdom (where they had stuff like steam-powered hover bikes) from some evil sorceress or whatever? I hated show, the guy who dubbed Peter Pan had the most irritating voice ever.

I remember that show. I thought it sucked.

Most cartoons from the 80's were pants. A couple years ago I saw re-runs of Transformers. My childhood nostalgia was destroyed, the show was badly written and really cheesy. I'm afraid to watch Voltron now since it's probably suffered a similar fate.

I feel sorry for you guys since you didn't grow up watching fantastic 90's/00's shows like Batman: The Animated Series (and it's various spin-offs:- Superman:TAS, New Adventures of Batman, Batman Beyond and Justice League), Gargoyles, Pinky & The Brain and Animaniacs.

Do you remember the various incarnations of the dubbed Gatchaman? (Battle of the Planets, G-Force, Eagle Riders) I saw G-Force and Eagle Riders - the dubbed versions in their uncut forms. Now Gatchaman was really trippy and cheesy fun in a Star Trek:TOS manner. I remember one episode where they - I kid you not - added Jesus to Mount Rushmore. The evil invading alien race stole the Jesus head and built a giant robot body for it, it shot laser beams from it's eyes I think.

Pinky and the Brain and Anamaniacs are definitely more 90's than 00's - I remember both of them, very funny IMO. Tiny Toons was funny too.
On the subject of childhood nostalgia I know what you mean Eva - I saw the 80's show Defenders of the Earth again recently, which IMO actually felt very slow and dull (great theme tune though). TMNT is kinda cheesy but still good fun :)

When I first saw Samurai Pizza Cats and thought about the concept I smelt a rip off of TMNT :? :D I dont actually remember much of the show though so maybe it was just the fact they were samurai cats who loved pizza as opposed to ninja turtles who loved pizza.

mysterious cities of gold... rocked.... Jace and the wheeled wariors....rocked. both have aged terribly yet still rock. and lets not forget trap door though I guess that wasnt really a cartoon. ooh and also count duckula which is actually funnier now than it was when I was young because I get all the somewhat adult jokes tat are littered within its realms.

one that in my mind havent faired so well are transformers, mask, he-man, thundercats, dungeons and dragons.

will probably think of many more as the day goes on :P

Around the World With Willy Fogg hasnt fared so well with me either - it felt rather surreal and cheesy on recent watching IMO. The theme tune rocked though :D

Yeah Yi, I know Alfred Jodokus Kwak, the yellow duck, isn't it? I remember that I used to enjoy watching it, but that's all about it, as I was a little kid when I watched it.

My favourite cartoon would be an Anime from the 1970's called "Grendizer". All 74 episodes were only ever completely dubbed into three languages. Japanese, French and Arabic. I've never seen subbed versions, though. The guy in my avatar is the lead "actor", Daisuke, who becomes Duke Fleed once in his in his pilot suite. Maybe Tom knows it. In France it was called "Goldorak".

English website that explains the wonderful storyline. It's not all about robots.

Does anybody remember "Biker Mice from Mars" and "Gargoyles"? Loved these.

Oh yeah, I remember Alfred J Kwak now, I'm sure it was shown in the UK at one point, though I cant remember if it was in English or not?! :P
Yi/LD do you remember "Dr. Snuggles" (1979) or "Once Upon A Time: Life"? :)

Biker Mice was okay. Gargoyles rocked (already mentioned it in my previous post), especially the second season with all the travelling to Avalon, backstory that rewrites MacBeth, etc. The cast also had alot of Star Trek:TNG actors I noticed - Commander Riker was David Xanatos (the evil millionaire dude) and Councilor Troy was Demona.

The Gargoyles season 2 part 2 boxset is in danger of not being released due to lower sales of the S2 part 1 boxset. Show creator/producer Greg Weisman is pleading with people to buy it. (source)
Greg Weisman wrote:I've been informed that the Season Two Volume One Gargoyles DVD has not sold as many units as the Season One Gargoyles DVD did. That's not particularly surprising, since it has a higher price point. But let's be honest, the lower sales are putting the release of Season Two Volume Two at risk.

To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to spend money they don't have and/or need for things like food, shelter, education, etc. But if you've just been lazy and have been putting off buying the darn thing... well, pal, help us all out by ponying up sooner than later.

And ALL OF YOU -- PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO SPREAD THE WORD!!!!

It is NOT a given that Season Two Volume Two will come out!

No, not that one. I think I seen that one flash by once or twice, but I'm thinking about the one which had very good, nice art, the classic story, I think it was from the same studio that made the new Pinokio cartoon back then. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Never seen gatchaman or any of it's incarnations. But I have seen Batman TAS (obviously, as I'm a huge fan if it), and the newer WB shows, and Pinky and the Brain (Awesome, I also liked the Goodfeathers cartoons which often came at the end of Animaniacs :D )
Gargoyels, I've seen that and was impressed with the stories, but the art was good one day, and bad the next. Si that changed around a bit.

Yi/LD do you remember "Dr. Snuggles" (1979) or "Once Upon A Time: Life"?

Yeah Dr. Snuggles was on when I was very VERY young. He was some kind of inventor, wasnt he? It's too long ago so really cant remember much about it, other then that watched it.
"Once Uponj a Time: Life" : wasnt that the show which was always very informative? Didnt really watch that.

BTW: Have any of you guys seen Nils Holgerson? Another old favourite of mine. About a kid that was cruel to his farm animals, so a tiny wizzard turned him into a very very small boy, and he joined a gang of wild geese and learned to be good to animals. Very cool.

Obviously, I also liked shows like MASK, GI Joe, Bionic 6, etc etc.
I even liked Captain Planet untill I was old enough to see through the flashy superhero extrerior and see the pro-nature propaganda :P

I loved "Captain Planet". I even had all the toys. I also had lots of M.A.S.K., Transformers and He-Man toys.

I remember Nild Holgerson, Bionic 6 (awesome show).

"Once Upon a Time: Life" was uber-cool There was also "Once Upon a Time: Human" by the same makers which explained the human body.

I agree with Yi, I used to love Captain Planet too :P As I got older I realised its not inhuman idiots like Hoggish Greedly (sp?) who are the real bad guys, but normal human beings who mess up the world. Thats the real crime. That cartoon is actually very black and white.
Dr. Snuggles was on when I was very young too, used to be on Channel 4 in the morning, yeah IIRC he was some sort of inventor. :D
I remember the Care Bears (!) cartoon, man that sucked... :D

LD I thought "Once Upon A Time: Life" was the show that explained the human body? There was also "Once Upon A Time: Space" by the same makers, I dont know "Once Upon A Time: Human though. The cartoons were French originally.

Hmmm... I only know of two and their German titles. One dealt with history and the other with the human body.
