The Game: Special Edition UK R2 - 11th of May

Fincher is a fantastic director however this for me is decent enough but far from the classic most seem to think it is:

Fincher is highly competant and has great visual style but he's a bit over-rated.

Seven was good, but far from the "modern classic" everyone claims it to be. It was really cliched and run-of-the mill police thriller. Fight Club was really predictable and loses it impact on repeat viewings. Panic Room was okay and not the terrible film everyone says it is, but I'm in no hurry to see it again.

I haven't seen The Game yet.

Fincher is a GOOD director, but in agreeing with Eva, hardly the visionary genius some make out.

Se7en is still his best film by quite some ways.

Alien3 was interesting, but flawed; The Game was actually quite intriguing most of the way, but sabotaged by the worst ending to ever disgrace a motion picture; Fight Club, mindless tract on violence and anarchy which says aboslutely nothing about the human condition; Panic Room, competant, modestly gripping Hollywood thriller.

IMO -

Alien3 - I've not seen the Extended Cut but the Theatrical Cut I've always thought is vastly underrated. It's not a bad film at all really

Se7en - Outstanding film, really dark, gloomy, gritty and also original

Fight Club - Outstanding film, the twists great and very unpredictable

Panic Room - Great edge of your seat stuff, no depth but does it have to?

I think that Fight Club is a classic.

I believe so. I have the R4 because of the UK one being cut at the time.

I saw the twist coming from a mile away, although it was less obvious then something M. Night Shymalan would shit out.

But from what I gather it's just a single disc packaged with Chuck Palahniuk's book.

I've heard rumours of a resubmission but no DVD no. Not that I care.

Gotta agree with Brad on this one. Se7en and Fight Club are incredibly well-made films and the performances in them are spot-on. Twisty-turny storylines in addition to great visuals (sorry, but pulling back from a microscopic view of someone's brain out of a pore and up a barrel of a gun is genius :D) make for great movies. Brad Pitt's line as Mills sums it up best: "Honestly, have you ever seen anything like this?" :)
The Game and Panic Room are more pedestrian, but still feature good performances (especially Forrest Whitaker in the latter. He's currently stealing the show in The Shield (which if you've never seen, I heartily recommend - best thing on TV, by far. Nothing touches it in terms of writing.)
Alien3 is very interesting because, despite severe studio (and Sigourney Weaver) interference, the film still has a great vibe. If you read the novelisation by Alan Dean Foster and watch the extended sequences, you see that Fincher planned to take the film down a very different path, relating to the character of Golic. Great stuff.

The Game UK R2 Spec. is up:

Assuming the "CGI Test Footage" is the same as the "Behind-the-Scenes Footage" then it's identical to the Belgian/Dutch R2.

I'll wait for the R4 of this (which will be identical to the R2). It'll definately be in the bargain within a few months (not online, in the high street shops).
