Top 10 Toys of All Time?

Post by the68monkey »

According to VH1, here's the list of top ten toys of all time:

10. Wiffle Ball & Bat
9. Slinky
8. Yo-Yo
7. Star Wars Figure
6. Monopoly
5. Mr. Potato
4. G.I. Joe
3. LEGO
2. Barbie
1. Hula Hoop

So, in keeping with the old wisdom of "all a kid needs is a bike, a ball, and a doll" goes, looks like variations of the doll and the ball made the list here. I'd have to say that jackrocks are missing on this list, though. Hours of fun with that bouncy little ball. :)

So what do you think of this list? Agree with the Mr. Potato Head and Legos? Is your favorite toy missing?

Wouldn't it have been Action Man? That character was supposed to be a military hard-arse, until he was re-invented as an extreme sports tosser (to compete with Mattel's Max Steel, which was more or less a Ken doll) in the 2000's.

Anyway my top whatever childhood toys (fuck that list):-

5. Tennis balls
4. Lego
3. Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars
2. Transformers
1. Videogames

I agree! I've had more fun playing with my kids' Legos than any other toy of theirs. I wish they'd had K'nex when I was a kid, because those are mighty fun, too. ;)

I collected MASK toys (the flying cars stuff) and GI Joe toys. Didnt really play much with them though... just liked collecting them.
But for me comics and graphic novels were most important when I was growing up.
And obviously a football.

Moving along  ( :D ), I used to have a Commodore 64, which I received for my 4th birthday. I was so chuffed with that and the screeching noise it made at me when I was playing Ghostbusters (complete with Ray Parker Jr.'s classic theme - with 'sing along to the bouncing ball' words!)
As for more normal toys, I used to love Transformers and I had the Star Wars figures. I also had an authentic 'Luke Skywalker on Bespin' figure. I say authentic, but the authenticity only applied after his fight with Darth Vader; I had removed his hand. For accuracy, you understand.

I used to have a BBC Master Series, which I got for my 7th birthday I think :D It lasted until about 1998/9 I think, then the disk drive died.
I loved all the classic games like Chuckie Egg :D, Galaforce 1 and 2, Zalaga, Winter Olympiad, Mr. Wiz, and most of all Granny's Garden, The Lost Frog etc - I always used to play that at school :D
