You've answered your own questiongrim_tales wrote:Ah my bad! That does seem a bit odd, no?
The extras seem sparse - no commentary from PJ?
Besides like you said there is no way this will be limited and then it vanishes forever, even if they re-release it exactly the same.
The LOTR:EE was announced around June time after the standard DVD came in March/April so I'm waiting until June/July before getting this.
I'll get some version before the year is out for sure.

Exactly I agree BUT knowing me I will kick myself really HARD if a 4 Disc arrives and I've not bought it.
The film is great action fantasy fun but crucially it has some depth to it.
Personally I can see two scenarios:
1. It's only 10-15 minutes longer so big deal for me.
2. It's the same cut but stacks more extras, commentaries would be nice.
I'd be annoyed if this ever had DTS (even though it would sound amazing) as it would mean splitting the film across 2 discs, unless it was much longer of course and then needed to be on 2 discs anyway.

Hey,
From a post at DVD Talk:

From a post at DVD Talk:
Extended Kong DVD News
Like you say though, the film is long enough as it is so the 4 discer would have to pretty special (loads more extras or lots of deleted footage - theres a rumor going round the deleted footage is ALL action) to make me buy it. I havent bought the 2 disc yet BTWfrom todays USA TODAY:
Movie fans will have several opportunities to go bananas over King Kong this year.
The two-disc collector's edition out today (Universal, $31) has nearly three hours of video diaries, plus features on Kong's home, Skull Island, and New York in the '30s.
But you won't see any deleted scenes or added footage. Director Peter Jackson is saving that for an extended cut of the film to be released on DVD later this year and will include a new making-of documentary.
"In the production diaries we showed a certain amount, but the real secret stuff is for later on," he says. "There are sequences that we ended up taking out for pacing and length."
Jackson's next project takes him from Skull Island to bones. He'll direct the movie version of the best seller The Lovely Bones.

A point I would raise about that: the LOTR footage put back into the Extended Editions was stuff from the books (and hence the screenplay) that was taken out for running time reasons, not because it was bad or didn't fit in with the tone of the film, whereas this is a monkey picture. The point it makes is hammered home quite easily in the running time of the original film, so I struggle to think as to what he was doing with such a long film in the first place.

Agreed but I still really want to see it.

It's not a great one when you look at the screen shots and clearly see it's a Review disc.
