24 Season Three 4.5/5
Whoever told me this was a terrible season should be hung, drawn and quartered... and then court martialed.
Fantastic stuff - I'd rate it better than Season 1, but weaker than Season 2. It was an emotional journey, with some tough decisions and sacrifices made. There were a few unexplained actions... but I'm hoping they are answered in Season 4.

gotta agree excellent series.i'm up to episode 15 at the moment.Shen wrote:Supernatural Eps 1 & 2 4.5/5
Fucking hell!! this is one awesome series...scifi/horror, 2 guys chasing demons/ghosts and other such creatures, has that great tension aspect to it, crapped myself so many times (not literally) not easily scared, but tension stuff really seems to get me, awesome...just annoying one-lines by one of the guys that kind spoils it, but so cool!

Throwdown 3/5
I love the subtle humour running throughout, and its all round quirkiness. Some great supporting characters too. I enjoyed this a lot more than many of To's output from the last few years (e.g. Running on Karma, Election, PTU, Yesterday Once More). One of Louis Koo's best roles too IMO.

Life on Mars Finale - 4/5
Good episode of whats been (IMO) a superb series - and its nice to see some humor back after last weeks immensely dark episode. But as a finale it seems to tease us viewers by coming so close to a conclusion and then throwing it away.. I can't believe we have to wait another year for Season 2, and I wonder how long they can up the "Is he dead/mad/in a coma" premise again.
Some nice moments with the radio commentator though.. "and there really is an improvement in Sam's condition.. the signs are stronger" and I loved Gene's comment about the porn titles being "a disgrace to the Western.. if Sergio Leone knew what they were doing!"

I think there must be some sort of clue as to why Annie turns out to be the woman in the red dress in Sam's dream somehow...

The Bodyguard (with that short bloke from Ong Bak/TYG) 3ish/5
Wasn't expecting much from this, esp. as I already knew that the "return of Tony Jaa" was a cameo (which lasted, oh, all of c.27 seconds)...
...but I was pleasantly surprised. There were plenty of laugh out load moments through the film, and as soon as I accepted it was just taking the rip it becomes more fun. I think some of the humour is Thai specific (i.e. bits that I think would be funny in Thailand, but which went over my head completely). The story is basic, the action is heavily accented towards gun play and wire work, but the "martial arts" finale is fun, and only slightly spoiled by whateverhisname is being doubled by a guy about 2" taller than he is!
I think I would have enjoyed it even without the obligatory beers :-)
Will be in the pile to watch again at some point!

Lost: Episode 17-20 (overall) - 4.5/5
Ooooo! Getting really exciting now!
I'm sure those lottery numbers (the onces Hurley says are cursed) come into play later.
Also, saw episode 20.. a pretty sad episode. Its' hard to say but I'm starting to like Shannon more since she become more "normal" and was friends with Sayid.
I don't like Locke though, IMO theres always been something shady/shifty about his character. He caused Boones death by taking him out in the jungle all the time and making him climb into the plane!
Only 4 more episodes to go now

Lost Episode 21 - 4/5
Lost Episode 22 - 2.5 - 3/5
The conclusion of Episode 22 felt really tacked on IMO
Sun intended to poison her husband so he wouldn't leave but he and Michael got their water mixed up??? Yeah right. He should could confront her. Considering how petty he often seems its a wonder they havent split long ago
Not to mention Michael shrugging of his son's burning of the first raft....
Lost Episode 22 - 2.5 - 3/5

Lost: Exodus Part 1 and 2 (overall) - 4/5
Like Life on Mars - yes I know there is a S2 of Lost and again like Life on Mars - the end of the last episode almost teases you, thinking everything will be OK as Claire gets her baby back and also for Michael, Walt, Sawyer and Jin when they appear to be rescued, but for some reason the people want to take Walt. Wonder if they are the "others" Danielle is always babbling about? What is the "real" significance of those numbers?. But in a way I'm glad some questions were left hanging as it keeps you interested. Cant wait for S2.

Natural City : 5/5
Beautiful remake of Blade Runner mixed with melodrama and crazy wire-assisted action. Yoo Ji-Tae is a magnificent anti-hero.
Save the Green Planet : 4,5/5
Part comedy, part thriller, part science-fiction. STGP could be the wackiest korean movie ever. Shin Ha-Gyun has never been more convincing.
OldBoy : 5/5
Perfection. Never has a filmmaker been so confident. Mr Park Chan-Wook drives the viewer crazy with his editing techniques and complex storyline. Choi Min-Sik's best performance ever.
Legend of Evil Lake : 3,5/5
Nice low-budget swordplay film. Good music, good acting and great concept (borrowed from Bride with White Hair). Yuen Tak's choregraphies are awesome.
That's my week so far...

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Palindromes 4/5
This is the second Todd Solondz film that I've seen after Storytelling, which I didn't enjoy too much because I wasn't used to his style. I thought Palindromes was an abstract commentary on forced attitudes towards pedophilia and abortions, particularly by Christian groups. I'm willing to give Storytelling another chance now but Todd Solondz knows how to evoke unpleasant feelings. Both his movies were tough to watch in my opinion.

Nuns on the Run - 3/5
Really a lot more entertaining than it should be, this is to all intents and purposes a one-gag film. Petty crooks Eric Idle and Robbie Coltrane are on the run from the police after they have a plan to steal a suitcase full of money and then run off to Brazil with it. So in an attempt to "go straight" they hide out in a convent dressed as nuns, attempting to pass themselves off as the genuine article.
With its' mix of slapstick and some crude gags (Nun to Robbie Coltrane who wants him to teach a class: Do you have experience with 18 year old girls? Robbie: Yes, plenty) , the film cant hide its British origins and has a very 80's feel (all right it was made in 1990 but you know what I mean).

Aakhree Raasta (imdb link)
4/5
Yeah totally retro Bollywood film. Fun to watch but my god was it long. Some of the morals could've been thinned out imo.
