ALIVE 3 out of 5
Well at last I get to see this Japanese film by Kitimura, aand wel I liked it and the story was an interesting thing and it definatly was not what I was expecting thats for sure. The cast seem to be good at there roles, maybe all the faces I know from other films (including Versus) but I cannot place a lot of them, but they all have interesting faces to them and are fun to watch.
The film isnt an action epic or a special effects epic either, but it didnt get boring for me much and the way the captions came up on screen was fun and made it seem dlightly different too.
Overall a great film and while its no Versus or Azumi, its still worth a watch (or buy for me). and the R1 dvd lists directors comentary on the box! there is none! I want my cash back the thieves!

On the other hand, while I was watching with my friend Yise (Yise is her Japanese name - she is Chinese, but lived in Japan), I questioned some things as well (may have done before), like how can 2 people fend of a whole of thousands of archers? They can in a wuxia pan film
Also I think the more tyrannical (sp?) deeds of the King were ignored - he unified China, made everyone have the same writing and money and things, but he was also (as shown in the Emperor and the Assassin), a ruthless, cruel person who killed his own son.
Where can I get more information? I'd like to know both sides of the argument about what he was like because Yise thinks the good things he did (unifying China and all that) outweigh the bad. Its'also worth noting though that Yimou may have got in trouble with the Government if he showed the King to be a tyrant.

I'll put my 2c in....
AB-NORMAL BEAUTY - 3.5 out of 5
With Oxide Pang flying solo on this one, he still manages to totally reflect the style used in The Eye. Good, but not gripping and with loads of style but not much substance it ends being a little mediocre. Storywise, things developed a little too easily. I'm still undecided on the ending too.

The best line was with that hillybilly punk who kept taking a swigs out of a bottle of hydraulic fluid. "That sheets got sum kick!!"

BLADE TRINITY 3.5 out of 5
I now have seen it and can say its the worst in the series for me, but its still great
many little problems yes, but its an enjoyable and funny romp with some nice bits. It does get bogged down with wayyyy to many cast members trying to steal the camera and for that it suffers in comparison to the 1st 2 films in that department.
There is no plot really, even the 1st and 2nd films had plots, but the plot for 3 is very very basic and at times a little silly.
Its does have some nice cast members in it who do some fun things esspecially Ryan Renolds who is very funny indeed! I was suprised to be laffing soo much and he was a great choise to be the butt of every joke.
Parker Posey is interesting too, sexy in a way as well! but doesnt get to do too much exept get abuse and do a few jokes and pull the gurney vampire face. Jessica Biel is tops, but she is a little to powerfull for a little girl really, but shes sexy and does her stuff well in her action bits of which she gets a few nice ones.
Wesley, well he is as in the other films, just not as good. I cannot put my finger on it why? but as with the rest of the film theres a strange feeling to it and at times its just odd comparing it to the greatness of parts 1 and 2.
Action and Fights are fine and theres some nice vampire action in there, with plenty of vampire dustings going on, but you do get a little tired after about 60 vampire dustings, as they seem to be a lot alike at times, the other 2 films had more variety I think, but while I say that they do look nice and some die in good ways.
Wesley is in tip top condition and pulls off some of the best moves he has done in all his other films, he doesnt get as many action pieces as in the other films, but he gets some which are up there with the best. The begining action set piece is very interesting and memorable. But his kicking in one scene is very impressive! he takes on loads of people and really gets to shine as a very compitent and quick fighter and its the 1st time I have looked at him and thought yes he can fight very well, he could always fight yes, but the one scene in this film made me think he is better than I thought he ever was.
Theres some dodgy CGI for sure, in fact none of the CGI impressed me at all and some was just crappy for me, compared to the 100% perfect CGI in part 2 its very suprising as Blade 2 for me while not 100% perfect all the time has some perfect shots! which mainly were on the Reapers faces and the staggering dustings, but Blade Trinity isnt as clean and as well done. Theres some shots which made me cringe as they just were not finished at all
and some shots just didnt work as they were silly ideas in the 1st place done for comedy.
They have cut back on the CGI humans, but still some shots are very apparent that they are CGI humans. I loved some shots in Blade 2 of Luke Goss jumping about and some Wesley shots too, but they are not as many shots in part 3 and what they do have aint perfect at all and in fact many CGI shots are blury for some reason!
Some Bad CGI I would mention, but they contain spoilers, but lets say the Big Bad Guy of the film is embaresing at times
Also its pretty violent in places, arms are snapped and eyes gouged out and headbutts galore, so its as violent as the other 2 easy so just because its a 15 doesnt mean its cut back much, its still far from a Kiddie film.
I may be sounding negative but hey thats what I am hear for
I think its a film that may be better 2nd viewing on dvd I hope, and hope the dvd has all the extra footage back in that they are promising us.

Three Days - 2/5
A kind of festive cross between Groundhog Day and It's A Wonderful Life, this romantic fantasy is nowhere near the superb film GHD is, nor the classic everyone says IAWL is (I havent seen it yet). A high powered attorney is told by an angel he has the chance to re-live the 3 days leading up to his wife's (Kristin Davis) death on Christmas Eve - can he change the course of events?
It feels clichéd and sentimental on the whole, but the performances are okay and it is an inoffensive, pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN 2.5 out of 5
Hahahahahahaha
jesus! now that was fun and shite at the same time, low budget crap starring Rowdy Roddy Piper! fun and silly with no budget and in the end its just one little chunk of sillyness. It is Planet Of The Apes but with Ginat Fogs and Roddy one of the last fertile men to lay his seed! if that doesnt get you in the mood nothing will.
I Spit On Your Grave! No Idea how to Mark this Thing!
Wel its as bad as they come in the sicko department and very very rarley films live up to there rep, its not the blood as thats crap and barley none existant, its the sickening Rape scenes over and over again! brutal, nasty, dirty and damn fuckin Evil at times! yes its pretty sick but strangley watchable!
no idea how to mark it and not sure what to say about it as revenge films are an odd thing, but this one is pretty much 40 minutes of nasty brutal Rape! but she does get her revenge and you kind of feel she should do more to the fucks!
Not one for Granny thats for sure and it maybe beats current evil rape king Irreversable in the unwatchable scale of things as this has more than one rape to the same poor lady. The film is watchable still and the leading lady is nice and doing such scenes much damage you surley!

Aladdin - 3.5/5
Good fun but I think that The Lion King for example was a more rounded film, the story is better with more memorable songs there. Aladdin also seems to be over far too quickly, perhaps I'm getting old
That said, there is much to enjoy, the animation is very good (more early, pioneering CG work here) and Robin Williams is very funny indeed playing er, Robin Williams
Legend has it that the producers let him throw away the script and ad-lib his way through the story as Genie - so his performance has a wonderful degree of spontaniety about it. Genius
Thats not to say the songs were bad though, I liked "You Never Had a Friend Like Me" (The Genie) and lament the deletion of "Proud Of Your Boy" as it was a nice song - Alan Menken has a good voice singing it.
Also, didnt Jafar's (sp?) annoying parrot become Aladdin's sidekick in later films and the TV series?

Sympathy For Mr. Vengenace - 3.5/5
Very powerful film. There is not "many" scenes of violence but what there is is very brutal and dark at times, so it is difficult to watch, some scenes are truly horrific and unpleasant.
As the Film Notes say, it is very unlike earlier big S. Korean films in style or tone, such as Shiri (which was very good but compared to this feels more like a Hollywood film). I didnt understand the messages in the film (SFMV) about the political situation in Korea for example.
Perhaps this will get 3.5/5 (on first viewing anyway). Its' a very high quality film (it must be hard to play a deaf mute too) - but its' not an easy view. The film also challenges who our "symapthy" lies with, is it the main character who wants money to save his sister or the businessman?

I loved SFMV and thought it was superbly made and everyone acted perfect and the tone was horrific at times and after all is said and done its one hell of a ride, but yes its maybe too nasty for its own good as I think I gave it 3 out of 5 as it's not a film I could watch over and over again like say StarShip Troopers

Spartacus 4 out of 5
Epic! the only word to say about it
Kurk is sutable hard as the Slave to Gladiator to free man! and boy its a journey, over 3 hours in fact and it does drag a few times (mainly at the end) but on the whole its just a joy to watch with some cracking action and massive cast shots featuring thousands of extras!
The cast are tip top and the bad guys are all evil and nasty and theres plenty of screen grabbing acting going on and its just a really likeable film with georgous music and classy Kurk as the Star.

HellBoy Direcors Cut 4 out of 5

Second Viewing of the film, but with added footage this time.
Hard to see where all the extra footage is, but I think saw most of it and there were a few additions here and there, but nothing life changing.
But the films still full of energy and pazzazz! with some excellent action scenes and some CGI which doesnt appaul you, its not perfect but it sort of uses the CGI well and it just kind of works for this film. Its not gonna change the world, but for a fun night in HellBoy delivers in spades.
StarShip Troopers 5 out of 5
One of the Greatest film ever made
I adore everything in it from the silly good looking cast and charecter actors, to the truley gobsmacking action scenes which are still so far ahead of there time they look amazing even now 6 years later!
A Giagantic film in every way, from the size of the action to the amount of extras, the Big action sequences are truley some of the best ever put to film and the quality of them is unsurpassed.
No one can ever top the 1st Bug attack sequence or the simply perfect Zulu like fort attack, which is one of the biggest and most exciting moment in film history! with perfect pacing and something that gets my blood rushing every time I see it, and I have seen it hundreds of times!
Overall the films pretty mych perfect in everyway and one that I hope I will watch many times in my lifetime, the cast are perfect, the plot is simple and effective and really they just dont make many films like this ever. I pray for a second film one day that lives up to this (and not a straight to video cheapo film!).
I Cannot wait to watch it again soon and I will!
