I currently own the R2 Aliens 1-disc and R1 Predator 2 - 1 disc set: Would you say it's worth upgrading to the 2-disc special editions? And if so which should I go for: R1 or R2? I read that the R2 Predator 2 SE has poor picture compared to the R1? This right? Anyone have any of these?
Cheers!

The R1 of Predator 2 SE has a few more extras (trailers, tv spots, featurettes) but I read on DVD Times that it was zoomboxed. I'd like to see an image comparison but couldn't find one. Where's DVD Beaver when you need them?
I think there's nothing wrong with the R2 Aliens SE so I might go for that.

You would think... but it seems not?
That's why I was hoping someone here had seen both - but I suppose that's unlikely.
I'm gonna go for the R1 I think.
Couldn't find anything negative about Aliens so I might just try the R2.
I have the one-disc sets so am not in a desperate hurry.
If you hear anything more Sam, LMK.

Yeah, snatch up the Aliens 2-disc SE. The extras kick arse, but the transfer is the same as the old disc. (It was the only film that wasn't remastered for the Quadrilogy/new SEs, Cameron thought the master he supervised for the original DVD was fine.) But the 2-disc SE does have the theatrical cut as well (through seamless branching) which wasn't on the original release.

Thanks Sam, but that's the R2 edition, which is supposedly inferior to the R1.
Here's a quote from a poster on DVD Times:
"I managed to make a little picture comparison(yes, too much free time) between the R1 SE and the R2 SE and the old R2 bareboner... The R1 picture is zoomboxed but the level of detail and sharpness is like from another planet compared to the R2 SE. As a matter of fact R2 SE don't even have much of a improvement compared to the bareboner... The point being, R1 SE and R2 SE are not very similiar in picture quality and the only thing the R2 SE's picture quality is similiar if not identical is the bareboner's which makes me furious."
