Michelle Yeoh has been edited out completely from Jet Li's latest martial arts epic Fearless. The film has also been shortened by 40 minutes.
Fearless was originally about two and a half hours in length, but after small test screenings, several professionals in the field suggested shortening it. They felt the movie was a little too wordy and advised deletion of an Olympics theme, seen as not central to the movie.
In the movie, Michelle Yeoh played an Olympic committee official. Jet Li incorporated the role into the story because he would like Chinese Kung Fu (Wushu) added as a competitive event in the Olympic games. He intends to show the extensive and profound art of Chinese Kung Fu in the film.
Director Ronny Yu eventually trimmed Fearless from 143 to 103 minutes, also cutting an action scene featuring Li and a Thai fighter.
With Fearless now less than two hours long, Michelle Yeoh doesn't have a single frame in the movie. Because of the editing, Jet Li went to Hong Kong especially to apologize to Michelle Yeoh. The actress expressed her understanding regarding the deletion and said that she is still willing to co-star with Jet Li next time.
Grim changed the thread title in december already. Thanks Brad.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
I thought so but the question mark remains. I'll fix that now.
I just saw the English trailer, oh man this looks good.
I hear Jet is going to make a film with Jason Statham, he's playing a bad guy. Surely this and the Tekken film with have him playing a martial artist???
Fearless AKA Once Upon a Time in China 7 . It looks almost identical, not that that is remotely a bad thing.

That's HK Theatrical release (26/01/2006) + ~2 months.
That's usually how it works in Hong-Kong.

Huge OUATIC-like fights, razor-sharp editing...
I have great expectations for this film.
P.S: Don't you just love Jay Chou's gay beijing opera voice ?

I don't have a reliable source (so don't quote me on this one), but I've heard that Ronny Yu has announced that there would be 2 DVD editions.
-1 with the HK cut of the film.
-Another, one month later with the full cut (including the Michelle Yeoh scenes).

So basically, your EXAT words, as quoted above, are that Fearless will also be released UNCUT!? Cool, cant wait. Hope you're right, Tom.
I got a phonecall tonight from a chinese friend who had downloaded the mandarin version of the movie, and he was very excited about it. (which kinda explained why he called me, cause we hardly ever talk anymore... )
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
Yep, I keep hearing lots of good things about this film.
Hope you're right, Tom.
