Blade Runner: SE could happen in 2007!

Post by bradavon »

And finally, here's a bit of news that's going to get a lot of you excited (and I made a point to specifically ask about this title, believe me)... Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982) is currently on track for release as a multi-disc special edition in time for its 25th anniversary in 2007. The release is far from certain (as usual, there's a lot more that I can't post about this title yet - think of the old saying, "Loose lips sink ships"), but Warner says that work is proceeding, most of the key players are involved and things are "looking good" for release next year. We'll see.

If this turns out to be true I'll be so happy but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm still happy with my non-anamorphic director's cut. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Dunno about the French releases, but ALL the R1/R2UK/R4 releases ARE anamorphic. The transfer sucks major arse though.

I'm gonna wait until there's an official announcement before I get excited, I love Blade Runner too.

I still wanna see the TC with the detective-noirish narration and the sickly sweet ending sometime just to see what's it's like, I've only ever seen the '93 DC. I'm not gonna track down a shitty old VHS, downloading a rip of the Criterion laserdisc w/ the European cut might be an option though.

Now where's a Twin Peaks Season 2 announcement?

I have that but I've never had the balls to sit through it though. I'll watch it eventually.

The DC works a lot better as a movie, but the original theatrical cut isnt bad, and is just as entertaining.

I could sit through both anytime of the day.

Not an announcement, but as far as I know, the latest word is that it's coming mid to late this year...

Of course but it's worth posting all info on the subject.

I bought the VHS second hand side time ago (P&S too) and it's 90% the same film. Those two points are the difference.

WTF? There is a third cut.

Reading up about it it sounds like the Theatrical Cut + some extra violence (which should've been restored for the DC). BUT crucially as it's still the watered down theatrical cut it's not going to be a patch on the Director's Cut:

p.s - TP: S2 good point!

aaaaah the extra violence you just reminded me.

Yeah the criterion is the Euro theatrical plus extra violence and the the eye gouging is scene is totally nasty ! seriously one of the few scenes in a movie I cannot watch.

Wasn't there a third version made?

82 TC
92 DC
2001 Definitive DC (or something like that). :?

It was talked about but never came about.

How long in duration are the extra European scenes?

Actually Scott finished cutting it in 2001. Thus the title "2001 definitive cut". :P
