During a press event earlier today, Warner Home Video made a fairly sensational announcement that is sure to please fans of the “Superman” films. The studio has a 14-disc DVD set in the making of "Superman." The set, called Superman: Ultimate Collector’s Edition is filled with featurettes, documentaries, and other stuff surrounding the Superman feature films, as well as all these films themselves.
However, best of all, the set will also contain the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2!
As fans will undoubtedly know, Richard Donner was relieved as a director from the film and replaced by Richard Lester before he could complete the film. Still, 70% of the movie were finished at the time but never released, of course ,though part of his footage was actually used in Lester’s “Superman2 “ version. But not nearly all of it. There is about 45 minutes of footage that has never been seen before – especially not the way Richard Donner had envisioned it!
Now, the studio is working with Donner to create the cut of the movie that he had in mind originally, which is VERY cool, of course, painstakingly restored. During the press event we were treated to a five-minute clip from the film - the opening sequence which had never before been seen - and it was a blast!
Get ready for this one, because it’s going to be huge!
OMG the Richard Donner cut. I'll have to buy 11 other DVDs to get it though . I'm guessing this will also have some of the original TV series as 19 discs of extras seems like a lot (4 Superman films + the RD cut).
If I could just get Superman, Superman 2 and Superman 2: RD Cut that would be sweet.
14-discs?! Seems abit over-the-top. They're probably including a new extended cut of Superman 4 as well. HELL YEAH, more footage of the epic battle with RADIOACTIVE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111
LOL , I already have Superman: Special Edition which was a dvd18, that was good. But i can't wait for the Director Cut of Superman 2. It a shame it may not be released on it own, so you have to purchase the boxset. I wonder if they will add in anything to Superman 3, i kinda liked it, in it own way.
What!!! Part 3 is way better than part 4... IMO... I did like the concept of Superman being evil, which they really should have explored a bit furthur, and when the alter ego are fighting

I hope that the new release of Superman 1 will be sold separately as well. Now if only Warner could do separate release of The Matrix remaster too.
Hmmmm... i'm a huge comicbookfan, and Superman was my first comicbook hero so I have a lot of love for the character, but all the movies sucked monkey-balls.
They repeatedly fucked up with dumb love-stories, dumb villains, dumb new extra super-powers, etc etc etc.
The new movie doesnt look all that interesting either, as it seems it's just a Lois Lane (with a kid? wtf?) gets kidnapped by Lex Luthor story.
Yawn.
They should get back to the John Byrne Superman stories and make a good movie out of some of those stories.
...but I feel superhero-movies like Superman and Batman etc work better in animation/CGI anyway.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Agreed. The definitive screen adaptations of Batman and Superman were in the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini animated universe. Mask of the Phantasm is by far the best Batman movie ever.
I really liked Superman 2 where he battles General Zod and the other Kryptonian criminals. Plus the concept of being imprisoned in a mirror drifting in space is hilarious. Yes, both cuts should be included - you never know, the Donner version could suck balls.
Superman was a "bit" dull as Lex Luthor isn't very excting when you compare him to General Zod with his special powers BUT I really enjoyed Superman 2.
I'm intrigued to see what they change but want both cuts.
