Doesn't look good for Kong - only got 4 Oscar nods (and theyire the less prestigious ones).
Brokeback will probably win Best Picture though.

I'd like to see CRASH take home something.

The acting was superb.

Christ on a crotch, I've hardly seen any of the films being nominated. Time to catch I think so that my rants have a purpose.

King Kong is great but it's not worthy enough to be in any of the big categories.
Brokeback will probably win Best Picture though.
As it deserves it.

I'll have to see Brokeback or Memooirs of a Geisha, I hadn't been to the cinema in ages before seeing Kong and forgot how good the experience was. :)

Seeing BBM before MOAG. Both are decent but BBM is definitely superior but some way.

I wish I'd seen "Sophie Scholl" at the cinema it looks really good. The DVD is out in April so I'll probably pick that up.

Me to I only saw one film between August and December at the cinema - Seven Swords.

I'm making up for it now though.

If there was film about that subject matter I'm sure that ALL the strong left-leaning Hollywood fuckers would swoon over it.

I agree with Romero, the Oscars are an entirely politically-motivated crock of shit.

If a record is worth spinning once, its worth spining a thousand times to tell people what a sham Oscars are.

I've never cared much about the oscars. Sure I'm outraged as much as anyone else when some movie or star wins that shouldnt have won it... but time will tell the truth about what movies are truly great and which arent... as well as with actors and actresses.
There's a huge marketing machine going on behind the scenes, making the voters believe certain movies are sheer works of genius etc etc...

It's fun to watch the show for what it is: a show. With lots of celebz, and a nice host (JON STEWART!)
Will the BBC be reporting again this year!? last year they didnt, which was a damn shame, as I quite enjoy Jonathan Ross presenting.

Well said, exactly.

Look at Titanic, good popcorn fun but hardly Oscar material (apart from the technical awards). It made stacks of cash but wouldn't be in anyones top 10.

I like watching the oscars purely to see the stars make idiots of themselves.

I havent even seen Titanic :o  I'd like to see it though.
Isn't it fair to say it made so much money due to repeat viewings (people going to see the film 50 times or whatever) and teen girls creaming themselves over Leo Dicaprio? ;)

Y'know, Grim... Everytime we're talking about a movie (ANY movie), you always say you haven't seen it.
How many movies HAVE you seen ? :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Hey!
I do watch movies, honest - maybe not as many as I should.

Have you seen:

Harvey (1950)
Battleship Potemkin (1925)
The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926)
Peeping Tom (1960)
The Vikings (1958)

:D

Jon Stewart, as Yi-Long already said.

...he's one of the best comedians around at the moment, so should be very funny. he'll probably also make fun of his own acting career :)
