King Kong (2005)...
Tin:

Thats' a pretty quick turnaround for a movie that is still in theatres, and TBH the tin looks pretty pants IMO. I think I'll wait for the R1 release.
Having said that you do get PJ's production diaries free.

You can order the SE (not a Tin) at Play.com now for £14.99 -
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=hpo& ... tle=901003
Perhaps a multi disc set will be done later (a la LOTR maybe?)

No Tin for R1 and no DTS either. I'm waiting to hear what the UK R2 offers as I want DTS if I can get it (Universal often deny R1 DTS and give it to UK R2).
The Scandinavian R2 is said to have DTS (but then so was Gladiator Extended Cut Scandinavian R2 supposed to have DTS). That said no DTS is listed for the 5th of April Scandinavian release:

The R1 is due the 28th of March:
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=60365
(Some) Extras look to be:
- Introduction by Peter Jackson
- Post-Production Diaries documentary (151 min.)
- Kong's New York 1933 featurette (28 min.)
- History of Skull Island featurette (17 min.)
- Credits

If there is I doubt I'll bother at 180 minutes it's a fine length. That said if it's much longer I may give in to the pressuregrim_tales wrote:Perhaps a multi disc set will be done later (a la LOTR maybe?)

They're doing the same for the R1 2 Disc non-tin. It's a shame but there you go.

You didn't actually buy it thenthelostdragon wrote:D'oh! I bought the production diaries. Didn't pay any cash though. I still had some credit at the video rental I work at and took the production diaries. Bugs me however, as I now know I should have taken something else for my credit.

I doubt they'll make it longer. I never heard any news about the theatrical release being any shorter then jackson originally intended it to be, or any wish of him to releasea longer cut for DVD or anything. With LOTR, that was already known long before the movies went into the cinemas.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

I wouldn't because it would mean splitting the film across 2 discs. If it needs splitting with or without DTS then yep I agree I want DTS.grim_tales wrote:I agree Brad I dont see how they could make Kong any longer. It would be nice if one DVD had DTS though.
Personally I'd have preferred Titanic SE was on 1 disc without DTS.

Of course, if it has a DTS track. But Universal don't bother with DTS thesedays for new releases of recent films which are released under the main Universal banner (they still do with new films released through "Rogue Pictures" in R1 at least). I'm sure you've heard me rant about it in the past?bradavon wrote:I assume you'd be happy to change discs half way through?

Hey,
About Kong -
from The Digital Bits
Just a day after we posted information about the possibility of an extended edition of The Chronicles of Narnia coming to DVD... we're now hearing that Peter Jackson and Universal may be planning a King Kong: Extended Edition as well. Arnaud Calistri, the editor of the French DVD news site DVDRama, e-mailed me yesterday to say that Universal France has just confirmed that a deluxe King Kong "box set edition" is being prepared for DVD release in November of this year, and that it will feature a new edit of the film itself. France will also be getting the same two editions the studio just announced for release here in the States on 3/28, but not until August. We're working with our own sources to try and confirm this, but it definitely seems like a possibility given Jackson's track record with his Lord of the Rings extended DVDs.

More on the extras:

It's odd there will be no commentary but then Jackson didn't do a commentary for the theatrical cut of LOTR!
What on earth is? - "The Volkswagen Toureg & King Kong"
p.s - According to e-tailors the UK R2 is out on the 11th of April. I'll hold off until we see it's spec.
