Hey,
I just watched "13th Warrior" for maybe the 7th time in my life and I noticed that it keeps getting better the more often I watch it.
But it still feels so cut and I just hope that these idiots of DVD producers will let McTiernan release the Director's cut. I have heard that his initial version had a running time of almost 4 hours.
So what is your guess? Is it ever being made?
13th Warrior - Is the Director's Cut ever coming...

I adore the film too and it was great on the Big screen in the cinema. No we will never ever get the longer cut. Which thier was apprently 3 longer cuts the longest nearly an hour longer! absolutly loads of stuff was gutted from the film and the film became one big joke before it was even released as they were arguing and fighting behind the scenes and when the director walks off the set you know there is trouble
its a shame as all the footage is there and has been filmed, but the final edit was done as short as they could as a joke I think.
Its another sad tale of cutting a film to hell as they knew after delaying the film for years the final film would definatly flop as they just gave up and didnt even advertise it or tell people it was coming out, they made it a flop.
Fact is its one of the biggest flops of all time, but as its not a famous film no one ever speaks about it in them top 10 flops of all time as the people who makes them lists dont do their research as they are dicks. People at the time said it cost over $150 million to make, but once they had a flop on their hands they lied and lowered the budget in every interview, thats sad really as it doesnt hurt them to know how much is cost, but its definatly not the budget they now say it cost they now say it cost half that. Maybe the film would feel bigger if they acctually unleased some of the bigger battle scenes and effects they created for the film and broght back all the bits they hacked from it!
Still I love the film and just wish I could see some of that tasty extra footage, and some of the much bigger fights, the end fight esspecially feels edited to hell
its in slow motion and still only lasts about 3 minutes! when in reality they filmed a massive sequence and just didnt want to bother with the film, so edited it out. Sad really.
I could take forever about this film
one day I am sure a booteg will pop up somewhere and I will snap it up, until then no way will they bother redoing a dvd for it as it didnt do well in cinemas or on home video
sadly.

Yeah, I 've heard that until the DVD was released, they made a big loss financial wise. According to IMDB, the budget was $85.000.000 (just $9.000.000 less than LotR3) and the final US gross was only $32.000.000. But we can never trust these figures.
I remember that there were posters all over the city here in Cologne when it was at theatres, so they probably did more advertising in Europe when they realised that it flopped in the USA.

Still it is great and a lot of fun too, it excites me still now and i may have to watch it again this weekend
I had a great site bookmarked with a full description of the cut footage from both directors, but cannot find it now
it sounded a much bigger and better film, shame they cut it all
The budget I wouldnt beleve a single word IMDB ever say, they make shit up all the time
it was definatly well over $100 million, you can ussually tell when a studio lies about the budgets as the actors and director etc.. are far more honest and they all said it cost more. Most flops they try to lie and say it cost less, but we know the truth, that they make shit up like the IMDB
