i.e. the director of Signs, The Village, Unbreakable and Sixth Sense.

Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Giamatti) rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.

Bar Signs Shyamalan has always managed to impress me. I'm looking forward to this already.

Shymalan is vastly overrated and a total hack. I doubt this film will change my mind.

Did you not like his earlier work like Sixth Sense and Unbreakable? Both of those are very good (Unbreakable is possibly better than Sixth Sense IMO).

I suspect he didn't Grim going by that stance.

Unbreakable and The Village are great. Hack is strong Eva, you don't like him but he has talent.

I think he's a superb filmmaker personally. Even enjoyed Signs.

The Sixth Sense is predictable as hell. I saw the twist coming like 1/3rd of the way through. You have to have half a brain if you didn't see that coming. Unbreakable = meh. Signs is an absolute piece of garbage, for fuck sake he literally shows up on screen AND gives away the twist. "Hi, Reverend Mel Gibson, I'm the writer/director and BTW the aliens are weak again water!" I washed my hands of that fucker after seeing that mess.

He's a run-of-the-mill director of stock-standard Hollywood thrillers who became vastly over-hyped after a whole bunch of clueless fuckers in 1999 were amazed by a twist that could've easily been seen coming a mile away.

That's a pretty offensive comment to make. I can understand the director's films not being to your taste but to badmouth his fans is uncalled for.

It's also pretty shallow to suggest that his fans are only interested by his trademark twists. In my opinion, he is a great storyteller and filmmaker. I love his visual style, particularly his use of colours to symbolise subtle clues (i.e. the use of red objects in TSS to highlight the dead's contact with the living). Even upon repeated viewings I sometimes notice little details that tie in with the title's themes.

Yeah, but even when you see the twist coming, it's still a fucking great movie. People often take his movies as only 'twist-gimmick' flicks, but judged on acting, story, cinematography, sound etc etc, they're great movies. The twist is only special the first time, but the movies are also great without that extra element of surprise.
Havent seen SIGNS yet, as I'm not a big Gibson fan.
The Village was good, although I too saw the twist coming, some of the acting annoyed me, and I'm not really interested in rewatching it anytime soon.

I agree Yi, I knew the twist in Unbreakable, but it was still a fine film when I saw it again recently

Even without the twist or when you know it, TSS, UB are still good movies.

Saw the trailer a few weeks back before Superman, looks like utter tosh. Paul Giamatti is awesome though, go watch Sideways and American Splendor.
