Lone Wolf & Cub - Again!

Post by thelostdragon »

Hey,

tomorrow, the new German boxset will be released. The only difference to the old version will be, that they enhanced the picture quality and that they have created a nice boxset with 6 digipacks inside.

However... the DVD version with my favourite picture quality of these films are the Thai discs. Is there a Thai boxset or are the discs only available seperately? And where can I get it?

Be careful with this new release.

If they used the same master as Wild Side Vidéo, the picture quality will actually be worse than any previous editions.
(The remastered french digipack is a disaster)

I don't know squat about any Thai release, I'm afraid.

My perfect box set would be:
French Package Design
Thai Picture Quality (although it is supposed to have interlacing problems)
French Extras subtitled in English

Above: German R2 Rapid Eye Movies
Below: Thai R3 (0?) United Home Entertainment

The old german release looks crap.

Both R1 and Thai releases have some colour correction filters applied to them.
I don't believe these movies were meant to look like that.

IMO the best versions in terms of picture still are:
-Original french edition.
-R4.
Despite the unnatural contrast boosting of the R4 picture and the unnatural colour schemes, I'm sure that they are closer to the original intended look of LW&C.

Old french release vs new ugly french release:

Of course the R1 and Thai releases are more pleasing to the eye, but I don't think they match the director's original vision.

Are the R4 Eastern Eye DVDs of LW&C NTSC-PAL or film-PAL transfers? And while I'm at it, what are their Lady Snowblood DVDs like?

I'm with saltysam here, i have the region 1, and they are good. I have seen the screen caps for region 4 and it looks too boosted for me.

Kind Regards
